I like the way our military is currently staffed with all volunteers. But--- if the USA continues with these endless wars, we may run out of military personnel soon.
If that happens, would you folks support bringing back the military draft?

No but not because we need a full volunteer army..
I said no because i think we should have mandatory service for 4 years after high school.

There is no demand...from anyone to bring back the draft. It's an issue with almost no constituency.

No. If America needs more volunteers because of some legitimate reason, tens of thousands of young people will volunteer just like they did after 9/11.

the lack of discipline & respect of kids these days...

yes, every kid from age 18 to 21 should be in the armed forces by mandate, not a draft, but a mandate through legislation requiring them to do so, including adding time for those that slack off/whine...

Why would you want the responsibility for kids’ upbringing to be given to the army?
The army just teaches you to blindly obey orders doesn’t it!
Why would you want kids to be blindly obedient to authority?

Well if you did people like your President wouldn't serve. They would be too rich (sorry make that 'unfit') to risk their lives for their country. Much better to let people who's Daddy's can't buy them their way out of military service take all the risks. That way they can grow up and put better men that they will ever be in the line of fire.

Upbringing? How old do you think draftees would be for God's sake, 6? And if you really believe all the armed forces do is 'teach you to obey orders' then you have no idea whatsoever what your talking about.

Teachers expect school children to 'obey orders'. So do sports 'teams' and for that matter employers. Groups who work together towards a common goal are simply far more powerful and effective than a mob of individuals trying to achieve the same thing.

“Kids.. lack of discipline and respect” is in the post I was replying to.
    I worded my response badly.

Better to send uneducated, unemployed, stupid & gullible volunteers to their death rather than those who want live a long life and enjoy it. The U.S. has an unlimited supply of people who have nothing to live for.

Why bother? We have a new driving force to bring young children into the military. Debt!

Trump has that attitude to our Armed Forces. Not even Trumpers share it. The Army has no need for stupid people nowadays

Good tv shows sometimes say wise things. Reality shows, and particularly Reality show stars, are the real bottom of the barrel though, giving you exactly what you might expect when you economize by not paying anybody in anything but the "fame" of Being. On. Television.

Some of us think that MASH, a multiple Emmy Award-winning show occasionally said something quotable, I'd never vote for Alan Alda for President though.

Bring it back just for about 20 minutes, we can all get a big laugh watching all the snowflakes wither and collapse into a heap of weeping boneless mush. The country could get a good look at who we could count on and not count on in a crisis pretty quickly.

actually would need to be for a full month or longer, because it'd take at least that long for the reality of it to sink in

I'm not sure I agree with this. The country has changed a lot in the past 20 years, and not for the better. Imagine 9/11 happening now with our current political split, there would be no unity at all and I doubt there would be the rush of volunteers from this current generation.

I've heard other people say this. I don't believe all young people are cut out for military service, so I disagree.

One on the big parts of being an adult is the ability to fit into a needed mold.
Cut out for military service or not everyone should do their fair share.

I wish i had been forced to. My 20s and 30s might not have been a waste then.

And that's not a bad thing..

Biggest problem with young people and it was certainly true of me. Is you cant get them to do things they don't want to do, a d if you do they do a piss poor job and or complain about it.

It is health to learn to do things you hate with your best effort and withour whining.
