Remove every voter that has died off the voter roles. A judge with cojones? How refreshing. Now, let’s do the same in every state. Wisconsin judge orders up to 209K voter names be deleted A Wisconsin judge on Monday ordered the state’s elections commission to immediately begin removing up to 209,000 names from the state’s voter rolls or face hundreds of dollars in fines for each day they don’t do so. Judge Paul Malloy said in his ruling that “time is of the essence in this case” and cannot wait for an Appeals Court or the state Supreme Court to decide the case. He also appeared peeved that commissioners hadn’t already begun purging voters. “I cannot be clearer on this. They need to follow the order,” Malloy said. https://www.detroitnews.com/story/n...in-judge-orders-voter-names-deleted/40993259/
Why is voting so tainted? This country is so damn corrupt! I don't care which side you are on, politics is a filthy scumbag business and if you get involved, watch out or you may be 6-feet under. It disgusts me! And the people let it continue to happen and continue to get worse.
You cannot prove it's just dead people being removed, but nobody should have a problem with that... The case is being appealed to the State SC, so nothing will happen until they rule... This judge can get his panties in a twist all he likes... It's called a stay.... Trump has used those frequently since 2017 to avoid doing things he should be doing as well... No difference here... LOL at "time is of the essence"... it's January and the election is 10 months away...
"Republicans say they merely want to ensure that people who have moved are not able to vote from their old addresses." "Even if a voter has their registration deactivated, they can register again later or on Election Day when they show up at the polls, assuming they have the required documentation." Sounds pretty reasonable to me. And remove every voter who has moved away.
I moved one election year and went to the polls and was re-registered right on the spot. Took about 5 minutes.
Voter suppression can always be made to sound reasonable.... Here's a question for ya... what exactly is the "required documentation" and is it something the average person carries with them?? For the record, I'm not generally against keeping databases like voting rolls as clean as possible... but there are just too many stories about legit GOP voter suppression to make me think this could be that. I hope any D's or I's on this commission are being realistic here.... dead people need to be removed. People who have moved within state need to be re-registered, which I hope doesn't involve multiple records in their name. Voter rolls shouldn't be that complicated.
The article also mentions that one of the groups most effected are colleges / college towns. Between the students who graduate, drop out, and transfer, I think it's reasonable to want to insure people aren't voting on behalf of Wisconsin* when they no longer reside there. College students shouldn't get to essentially vote twice, which is what would happen if they voted as Wisconsin* residents and then voted again in whichever state* they may move to. This case really is quite reasonable. *or another county, district, etc.
i'm a bit confused don't you guys vote using your ID to avoid **** like this ? here if i dont bring invitation+id i dont vote its simple, and i dont get to keep the invitation after my vote either
My instance was years ago when they didn't use computers (the old days) and they had a registration area, the poll was some elementary school lunchroom. So I go over to them and tell them I moved and want to re-sign up (voted for Carter back then, I was a loser/dippy hippy). They had these huge books, one was A-D, E-K and so on. They had everyone's name and sig I would think in the county in there and they found my name and sig. So I showed them my driver's license and they took me to the voting booth. took about 5 minutes top. Probably faster with today with all the tech out there.
We don't receive any "invitation" to vote, we just register and show up on election day. Some states have enacted voter laws requiring ID to vote, but they are not yet universal. Some people are against such laws, claiming they disenfranchise voters who are unable to obtain ID. So in states with no ID law, you could show up at the polls, give the name of a deceased registered voter, and your vote would be counted. It seems like a situation with a high potential for abuse, and I guess this judge is attempting to reduce this risk.
sounds like thats just begging for abuse then again its one of the few things stil organized here in belgium to be fair
Is there a reason you're concerned here? If the judge has had to issue an order like this, likely there is ample evidence then of the board having not acted in the state's best interest. So, purging the roles seems appropriate for whatever reason it is required by the law. And yet, that seems to bother you. Not interested in adhering to the law here for some reason?
Purging the voter rolls based on death, relocation does not sound like suppression to me but I've lived in an ID required state for my entire voting life and honestly, its not that friggen complicated. Register with all proper documentation, receive confirmation that you are registered and then vote, once, only in the state you are eligible to vote. Ideally there should be a way to cross check against a master database but I don't believe that a master database exists, each county/state maintains their own list as far as I know and the integrity of that list should be monitored. It certainly seems possible that a person who has moved 3 times in the last several years can vote 3 times in 3 different ways. At the very least the individual counties should coordinate with their home state to purge person A from voters rolls in which they are no longer eligible. now: if I move tomorrow from say Florida to Georgia, I doubt I'd notify the Florida elections official that I'm no longer a resident, which would mean that I could be registered in 2 states because my previous state doesn't know that i'm no longer a resident. Perhaps in many cases we assume that Georgia would notify Florida but I don't think that happens right now, or at the very least It doesn't happen everywhere, I just end up being registered in two states until the previous state takes some kind of action to remove me. Personally I'd prefer that we re-register every 10 years or so to help eliminate overlap, confusion, potential for fraud. Maybe tie everything to your SS# and create a master database so they could find out of Michael smith with X ss# is registered in 4 states because he moved around quite a bit and then require that the individual document the correct state he should be listed in and therefore purged from the other 3.
The thing that locked me in was my sig on the voter roll matched my sig on my driver license. I was standing over the worker (some old lady who looked to be in her 80's) who had the ability to notice matching sigs very quickly.
I have to register/renew my vehicles every year. Keeping voter ID roles up to date even on an annual basis also seems doable.
We hear plenty of stories about how the left doesn't want to disenfranchise voters, but how many stories do we hear about where voters actually are? During the last election, the only stories I heard about came from Texas where people went to vote and they were told they already voted and turned away. Then we have the stories about mis-calibrated voting machines that by some miracle changed Trump votes to Clinton. Every friggin possible voting error always seems to favor democrats, and 99% of the voter fraud cases we see are committed by democrats. With all these glaring mishaps taking place, why is the left harping on Russian Facebook ads when they should be addressing the election problems that we can actually fix?
The Democratic dead don’t like having their names taken off the rolls. I love the stories about how in blue areas they have more votes than people living there. The Democratic Party is legendary for voting shenanigans. Lyndon Johnson, Richard Daley, Tammany Hall, etc. Hilarious.
Maybe the USA could do what Canada does and have you register to vote by saying you want to on your tax returns form. We do this for both the federal and provincial elections.
