I would be willing to bet that both are linked - hard to be emotionally nurturing when you can barely afford food on the table.

So...if the women are unable to afford kids, then they should just not have sex.

    Got it.

Yea...the birthing rate in America is under the replacement rate for a developed society. So I don't think there will be a significant problem finding caregivers.

Healthcare is not the plan being discussed here and neither the plan for healthcare nor the plan for childcare are free.

He acted as if he never dreamed that anyone would ever ask him where in the hell the money was going to come from. You could see him actually trying to think of some answer that would not make him look like an idiot . . . and he failed.

I read an article that delves into the theory you are implicitly endorsing here.

One of the reasons why Bernie is so popular with the younger generation is because they are jealous of the things you took for granted.

Your higher education was affordable (over the last 40 years, it has risen by about 6-7 times inflation). Your homes were affordable (now, housing prices in many areas make it virtually impossible to buy unless you are making several hundred thousands a year). Your healthcare was affordable (healthcare has outpaced inflation for pretty much every year since the 1960s).

And folks are surprised to learn that the younger generation wants to rethink how we handle our significant segments of our economy?

It's a pretty foolproof plan, actually. Something my dad taught me about how you'd better not get involved in anything that'll require at least 18 years of financial payment unless you can afford it first.

It kept me out of a lot of trouble. Pretty sure it would work for everyone else too.

Your dad should have taught you that teaching abstinence only education is just about one of the worst methods for actually achieving the desired result of fewer unwanted pregnancies and fewer sexually transmitted diseases. It is pretty much on par with teaching kids the pull out method.

Here's the thing: What he was teaching was called "responsibility".

I'm guessing the reason you didn't get it is because they don't actually believe in that in the legal profession. Like, how when you commit a crime you don't actually pay for it.

On a gut level, I don't like the idea of giving birth to a child and almost instantly institutionalizing that child into a government-run child care facility. It reminds me of some totalitarian government like China or North Korea where your only worth is the labor you provide, not the home you make, not the time you spend raising and nurturing a child.

If we are going to tax and spend a lot of money on a child care program, maybe that money ought to go to the parents directly. If they want to spend it on hired child care, or if they want to stay home and raise their children, they can then decide.

    He who controls the purse...

And American children are not in holding cells, that would be illegal immigrants. And no they do not have the rights of American citizens, not should they.

So that has nothing to with my post, so I'll ask it this way. Where you going to get qualified caregivers when you have 8-10mil children in daycare? There aren't enough QUALIFIED caregivers.

Yeah, because two parents actually taking care of their own children is "an embarrassment" :disbelief:

Only Democrats and Karl Marx could arrive at that conclusion. :icon_shithappens:

Seems like Sanders is digging his own grave here. Statements/plans like this are going to come back to bite him if he gets the nomination

That's not even remotely close to an accurate interpretation of Bernie Sanders.

Where is this theory coming from that Bernie Sanders is proposing that the government start running daycare? It is not.

This is a proposal to help poor individuals afford childcare.

It's like going into a bank asking for a business loan. You might want to explain how much you need and how you intend to be able to pay it back. Unbelievable he does not those answers ingrained into his mind at this point.

You may have misunderstood the gist of my comments.

Do we turn our children over to government-financed group care facilities so our parents can work, or do we encourage parents to raise and nurture their children?

What I am wondering is if children wouldn't be better off in their infancy and toddler years with a parent who loves them versus an institution. And I'm wondering if maybe a better idea wouldn't be to pay that parent instead of a daycare facility, and let the parent decide.

I think it is because there is no way to answer HOW the nation is going to pay thirty trillion here and thirty trillion there with perhaps even more expensive pie-in-the-sky socialistic dreams and schemes waiting in the pipeline. Remember that nobody actually took the idiot seriously about anything until he ran against Hillary Clinton and then afterwards he was put on a shelf until about six months ago. He doesn't actually have any real answers to anything.

    All true.

My favorite part was when challenged on his $30 trillion dollar plan he says "I don't know the nickels and dimes of it"

Uh Bernie can we ask about say..... 100s of million or maybe billions at least?

    I don't think he knows what $30 trillion is...I really don't....

Amazing. A man kicked out of a hippie commune for not working is now running for President by promising to give people free stuff.
