It's hard to imagine we won't do basic precautionary measures that Italy and Japan have already done: shut down the schools. At least in areas that are hard hit. I live in Southern California, so that's probably going to affect me.

 

Next year's season is likely to be "Cold, Flu, and Covid Season" and we'll have flu and coronavirus vaccines by then. As many people who choose not to get the flu shot will probably choose against the COVID vaccine as well. This is likely to just become a new "routine" part of the season.

Anyway, I was curious why you, as a scientist, went ad hominem on Trump’s statement instead of giving reasons you don’t think COVID-19 will be affected by temperature, humidity, close human contact, increased UV light, etc.?

Trump (as usual) gave a very poorly worded delivery of his point, but to dismiss the point out of hand is denial of science, something I was shocked to see from you.

That's not why they close schools. They want to slow down the spread as much as possible so existing healthcare infrastructure doesn't become overburdened. The thinking is: better to have this thing crawl slowly through a country, than hit all at once.
