The important quantity here is R0, the basic reproduction number of the virus. It represents the number of transmissions from a single carrier:

For COVID-19, R0 is currently not exactly known, but estimated to be between 1.6 and 6.6. Let's assume it is 4. The 60 current cases then could have infected 240 new persons, if they were not quarantined. The 240 then infect 960 in the next generation. The numbers then become 3840, 15,360, 61,440, etc. You see how quickly those numbers could get out of control, which is EXACTLY what has happened in Wuhan. The miracles of exponential growth..

Yes, we agree on what Trump said. But you dismissed it when it was based on long understood reasons viral infection rates plummet seasonally. The point we aren’t sure what will happen is valid, but saying Trump is pulling things from somewhere is absurd when his premise is based on empirical evidence. And it’s equally absurd coming from a Vanity Fair article or a practicing scientist.

Yep, do we know how long it takes to show signs of the virus? That's the most important piece to the puzzle in my opinion. One new case in 2 weeks. If we don't get anymore in the next week then I would think it's all under control.
