Pretend POTUS Biden said the travel restrictions on China were xenophobic AND fearmongering.

Thank goodness he's not the real president - we'd really be ****ed right now...

I'm digging a shelter in my backyard and stocking up on Chilian seabass and veal porterhouse steaks. Will I be alright?

We are freaking out when this virus has been among us since at least November. People in November December could've been diagnosed with the flu when it was infact Corona. So question were you fine in November/December?

If so what's the difference now ?

I don't understand the question but I can reject part of the premise.

The goal should not be to test everyone who is asymptomatic. It should be to test enough individuals that are asytmptomic that we have an accurate understanding of the current level of spread and concentration of this virus amongst the general population.

Read up on how the number of cases change with time and you will get your answer.

"We requested COVID-19 testing by the CDC, since neither Sacramento County nor the California Department of Public Health is doing testing for coronavirus at this time. Since the patient did not fit the existing CDC criteria for COVID-19, a test was not immediately administered. UC Davis Health does not control the testing process," the hospital said.

People were not tested if the didn't fit the profile, i.e. no travel to China or no contact with anyone who traveled to China. Why? Because lack of test kits. We could have picked up community transmission much earlier with sufficient test kit numbers.

Personal story: I had the flu two weeks ago. I am having trouble to get rid of the persistent cough, so I went to the walk in last Sunday (wanted to beat the rush), to check if I am heading to bronchitis territory. I told them I have a student in my lab who came back from China in late January. They didn't care. if I had asked them to do a covid test, I am sure they would have refused. They didn't even have enough face masks for patients.

The NHL, NBA, NCAA, and ITP were all conducting sporting events. Travel to Europe was still permissible. And the number of people infected with the virus, globally, was in the low thousands.

If we don't know when patient 1 got here wouldn't we be missing a large part of the curve?

It will peak soon-as it has in Asia.

40 people have died from this virus in the US-average age was 80 with co morbidities.

At least 20,000 have died from the flu this year.

"And the number of people infected with the virus, globally, was in the low thousands"

How did they know? Because the disease was free since November and totally unknown to us until late December.

How many patients were misdiagnosed with the flu when it was actually Corona during that time?

I hope you are correct, but the fact that people are still joining your thread and still saying objectively false things like "the medical professionals are the least worried" makes me believe that you are ****ing wrong.

Because we know the shape of the curve and kind of know what we have over the last few weeks we can predict case 1.

So no actual examples of corona virus overwhelming the system?

The "warning" is the same as with most other viral illness-get your flu and pna shots, wash your hands, etc.

Right they didn't need to be tested and your Governor has said on the record they are getting everything the need and the Trump administration has been doing a great job.

Personal story: I came down with a server bronchial infection weekend before last. Communicated with the doctor, said treat at home use over the counter. No fever, no trouble breathing just the coughing a lethargy. Didn't get better so he called me in last Monday. Not the virus, steroid shots and inhaler and C-pap just as precautionary. I didn't need to be tested.

But I do make all the checkboxes, age, preexisting and now this. So I am on a self quarantine working at home limit public contact as much as possible because were I to contract it it could go bad real quick.

    Use common sense, don't panic.

A far left and extremely biased source, does not constitute "evidence". evidence of confirmation bias, at best.

I'm not surprised it's not obvious to you, that's why I have to use simple examples.

I thought of the example of covid overwhelming the system.

How testing failures allowed coronavirus to sweep the U.S.
