Some of the people who got COVID-19 from the Spring Break crowd. They spread around the country.

A couple of notes about testing in the US:

Here is a graph of the number of tests conducted each day:

As you can see the number of tests conducted daily has definitely ramped up and we have moved past a plateau that existed from Day 21-31 (March 25th-April 3rd) and we should now see at least 150,000 tests done each day. But we need that number even higher.

    upload_2020-4-7_12-30-31.png

And here is a graph of the Positive % over that same period (i.e. the percentage of the tests which yielded a positive result). I think it is a safe assumption to believe that a high Positive % would indicate that the number of infected in an area is higher than the confirmed cases, so it is good to see that the percentage has held fairly steady over the last three days, but that rate is probably still too high. In places like Canada and South Korea, the Positive % is closer to 2-5%.

The governor of LA disclosed that the cases in New Orleans appears to be flattening. They have also secured 75,000 hydroxychloroquine pills and 8,000 azithromycin pills.

Doesn't depend in part upon who is tested and why? Canada, for example, looks for two negative tests before a recovered COVID-19 patient is okay to circulate.

I've been a cheer leading fan of Desantis since he took office, but his response has been horrid. I didn't vote for either, I have no dog in this fight.

Which is why he is a waste of YOUR time which could be better spent on other things rather than responding to his nonsensical drivel and asinine questions.

I use a 3 strikes limit. If there is nothing of any substance or value from the same troll 3 times in a row I send them to Cyberia. Life is just too short to waste on those who are willfully ignorant.

Propaganda. Why are we so much worse off than South Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Canada?

You are comparing donuts to dog walkers!

Let's start with the FACTS instead.

There is a stark difference between CONFIRMED cases with the disease and population that has been infected and not yet tested or showing any symptoms.

Secondly the estimate of 20-30 million is based upon AFTER this Pandemic has FINISHED at some time in the FUTURE, not NOW!

Cherry picking at this point in time when we already KNOW that the testing is far from comprehensive and comparing that to the OVERALL total is DISINGENUOUS.

The ESTIMATES are based upon ASSUMPTIONS that exist at the time of the estimates. The IMHE estimates are based upon the assumption that EVERYONE abides by the Stay at Home recommendations. We already KNOW that has not happened and is still not happening in many parts of the nation.

What we have LEARNED is that the virus is highly contagious and as long as Social Distancing is NOT being enforced the numbers of the infected continue to grow.

We have also learned that those infected can be ASYMPTOMATIC and until we have the means to test everyone we are NOT going to know how many people have it.

The ACCURACY of the predictions can ONLY be determined AFTER this Pandemic is finally over.

I recommend that you use the ignore feature. It keeps the partisan crap to the bare minimum.

Just want to add a clarification here. There is some speculation that some of those who are dying are infected with BOTH the flu and the Covid-19 virus simultaneously. It is entirely possible that we may end up not knowing the exact number of cases for each disease given the "fog of war" situation that we find ourselves in right now. Someone with pneumonia caused by the flu could be in a bed right next to someone the corona virus. They might even end up sharing a ventilator.

So with the above caveat it might be better to say that the COMBINED death toll less the average of annual flu deaths can be attributed to the Covid19 virus.

If you are riding behind another cyclist then you need to factor in the speed in order to determine the actual distance that would be safe. They are breathing harder than normal because they are exercising and if the virus is airborne you are essentially riding into the air they just breathed out. A safe distance might be 25 or 50 feet depending on the speed and exertion levels.

    Good morning, PFers,

HERE the COVID-19 numbers from last night (my time).

Also, since I screwed up and forgot to insert the actual screenshot from Worldmeters into the posting, here first the screenshot from last night:

    2020-04-006 COVID-19 EOD 001.png

And now, this morning, April 7th, 2020, at 09:18 GMT +2 (03:18 am on the East Coast of the USA), 6 minutes ago:

    2020-04-007 COVID-19 BOD 001.png
    2020-04-007 COVID-19 BOD 002.png

We've jumped more cases in the night than we did yesterday in the night. Very likely that we will cross over the 1.4 million mark today.

Also, the USA is closing in on 400,000 cases.

I agree, but you do realize that the phrase "orange man bad" that you threw out is equally partisan, right? Just sayin...

That being said, I thank you for working to keep this thread friendly and sane. IMO that speaks very well of you.
