Bernie Sanders drops out of the presidential race

Should be interesting to see some new polls now.
I'm a little surprised, but it was the right thing for him to do.

I already started a thread IN THE PROPER SECTION.

 

So far, that story is 20 minutes old, an empty shell. It is literally a one sentence story attached to a whole lot of pablum about his past candidacy. It does not refer to a Sanders quote, a Sanders document, a Sanders speech, any source whatsoever. I needed a little more to be sure it isn't a typo.

Edit there is a fox news story that says more. He's suspending. Its the right call.

For anyone that has had life experience with a family member or friend suffering from dementia, you know that Joe Biden is there. You also know that the decline is rarely slow. The only way the American people elect him is if the Democrats are successful in keeping him totally out of the public eye. It is a shame that his wife is going to let him go through this.

With the current situation in the United States, and with millions of citizens begging for government to save humanity, seems that Bernie's philosophy is poised on the launchpad and ready to make fundamental changes to America. And here, just when history has opened the door for him, he bails.

 

I think most realize his solutions don’t actually solve anything.

Let's hope that continues. But with many clamoring for government help right now, I fear that we are moving that many more steps to the left.

 

This surprises me, I didn't think Sanders would drop out. That he would carry his campaign all the way to the convention as a platform for his ideas. Did Sanders move the Democratic Party to the left, I think he did some. I would say four years ago progressives made up somewhere between 20-25% of the Democratic Party faithful. That over the last four years they have increased to around 35%. The more moderate faction, the more Democratic Party traditionalist still have a majority. That could be changing, it probably is.

But the big question isn't so much about the Democratic Party faithful as it is with what we call swing voters, independents, those who aren't affiliated with either party. Those who are less partisan to being non-partisan. Has Sanders changed some of these folks thinking? Most independents which according to Gallup on 22 Mar make up 36% of the electorate. A lot of these so called swing voters became independents because their philosophy, ideology falls somewhere in-between the two major parties and this, call it electability is probably the major reason why Biden has now won the Democratic nomination.

I wish Sanders well. One last thing, Sanders is a self described Democratic Socialist which doesn't play well among independents. In fact only 45% of all independents said they would think about voting for a socialist. The rest wouldn't regardless of the candidates.

Now if someone else had professed Sanders ideas, someone who hadn't described themselves as a Democratic Socialist, his ideas probably would fly. A Biden, Klobuchar, Bloomberg, Steyer, Buttigieg, others of the more moderate views wouldn't have been stigmatized as being a socialist, a losing proposition come the general.

Who the messenger is sometimes make all the difference.

 

My Mom had dementia which has shifted to Alzheimer’s now. No freaking way Joe is passing his physical. If he does this whole thing is a set up for his running mate. So Lets assume whoever that is will be the president if Joe somehow wins. He’ll step down after a month or two or be forced to step down because he’ll do something completely embarrassing on live TV. Dems setting it up to squeeze through their first female president without having the country vote her in. Just wait

 

If being embarrassed on TV mattered Trump would have been gone long ago.
