Restocking the national stockpiles? That would require a crystal ball to know what to restock. There are numerous possible disasters that could happen. How could anyone be prepared for all of them?

The research was started with the rest of the world. The US was working with China early on even though the WHO claimed the virus did not spread person to person.

Alerting the public about international travel is not going to stop anyone from travelling. The State Department lists travel advisories all the time....no one listens. When Trump put the travel ban in place democrats were yelling Xenophobia. Where is your beef with them?

Stay at home mandates are put in place by governors. Where was Cuomo on this? And why aren't you digging him and Deblasio?

You can always tell where real leadership is absent when people can imagine only two extreme scenarios: You either shut down the whole country, or do nothing. It's a recurring theme in this administration: You're either in favor of a policy to separate children from their family, or you're for "open boarders". You either give tax cuts to the rich, or you're for increasing taxes. You either leave the healthcare system to Insurance Corporations to do as they please, or you want free healthcare. .. so many examples.

As for your post, if Trump had acted accordingly he would have prepared for the worst and hoped for the best. Which doesn't mean shutting down the country. It just means being prepared to quickly identify and isolate the first cases. Renewing the federal stockpile as quickly as possible.. Not ooking for somebody else to blame. Even if you think that somebody else didn't do their job, you focus on doing it better than them.... not worse. Oh.... and preparing the country in case it needs to be shut down at some point. Just so I don't have to send out a technician in the middle of the pandemic to set up a company so they can work remotely, when I could have done the same in advance, if we had had the information when it was available.

Of course it will stop people! You don't travel much, do you? It may not have stopped many if Trump continued to minimize the threat. But it could have prevented some who are informed enough and understand what a pathological liar Trump is. Maybe enough to slow down the spread by a day or two. Which would have given Trump one or two days to prepare. Which he wasn't doing anyway, so.... It's just an overall mess what Trump has done with the handling of this crisis.

Because it was xenophobic. Trump had no interest whatsoever in preparing for the epidemic. If he had, he would have taken more steps. Starting by not minimizing the threat. Especially when the W.H.O. had already declared it a worldwide pandemic.

Cuomo should have ordered a stay in place order much earlier than he did. But he didn't have the information provided by the intelligence agencies that Trump had in early January. And it would not have made as big a difference if other states didn't do likewise. There is no "immigration authority" between states, you know. A Federal emergency declaration and order was necessary. As well as a President who provides information, rather than misinformation like this one has done.

There is no way you can justify the absolute disaster in the way this administration has handled this crisis.
