    Better buckle-up your seat belts.

    The state of Florida has recorded +8,942 new confirmed COVID-19 infections:

    2020-06-026 COVID-19 Florida reports just under 9,000 new C19 cases.png

    And Florida, by county, the top counties:

    2020-06-026 COVID-19 Florida reports just under 9,000 new C19 cases - by county.png

    This is considerably more daily C19 cases than anything that California or Texas have reported, shattering all records to-date

    On Sunday 2020-03-022, a little more than 3 months ago, the entire USA reported +8,565 cases on that day, 286 cases less than the state of Florida today:

    Food for thought....

    It is only called the "Spanish" Flu because in WWI, Spain was neutral and therefore, its media reporting was not subject to war-censors. The pandemic had long hit Germany, France, Britain, Russia, Italy, the USA and so forth, but no one wanted to admit that the pandemic was weakening their military standing. So, Spain reported the numbers and this pissed the French off mightily; they responded by dubbing it the "Spanish" Flu and the Spaniards returned the favor by calling it the "French" Flu. Meanwhile, the first officially recorded case happened at a military base in the USA, in Kansas...

    Sorry, I don't believe there's enough thinking people here for this to provide much of anything.

    It seems like, yes, people are acknowledging the increase, but are too busy playing the blame game. Regardless of what governments may belatedly do, the attitudes of the people will not allow for successful mitigation. That is on full display on this forum daily.

    I can't help but look to Australia for comparison. We have utterly failed and are continuing to fail. The only positive to be gleaned is that deaths are lower than previous highs, but that may not last much longer.

    I can only conclude that our exceptionalism has come 'round and bit us squarely on our hindquarters.

    Yeah, that's the history behind it. I'm just thinking about the media/Trump both harping on the 'kung flu' crap, it's not helpful and not purposeful to me. So when you pointed it out, I started to understand why it would be harmful and unproductive. Generally, I am trying to adapt my views more and more to the evolving situation and I feel like tit-for-tat points isn't really what we as a human race need right now in dealing with the coronavirus.

    It's unfortunate that the virus hit during an election year, and not during 2019 or 2018. That would've allowed for maybe more cooperation amongst each other and the governments.

    The state of Georgia has reported +1,900 new C19 infections. Yesterday, the Peach State reported +1,714.

    These massive daily case hauls are now the new normal.

    Yup. It's okay to go to a rally because other idiots were doing idiot things. It makes me wonder.

    Those claiming the virus will magically be gone from the world on 11/4 are in for a world of disappointment. 9,000 new cases in Florida yesterday. Hooray for opening Orlando!

    I think you are doing a very healthy thing. Good for you.

    Honestly, I have filtered Trump completely out of this. He has now, though his utter incompetence, become totally irrelevant to me.

    Today, India crossed over the 500,000 mark in total C19 cases and is currently at 509,446

    One month ago, on 2020-05-026, India had 150,793 cases. That's an almost 4-fold increase in cases in just one month.

    Australia is sending 1,000 army personnel to Victoria amid a surge in virus cases in the south-eastern state.

    This comes after Victoria has seen a spike in Covid-19 cases in recent days, with 33 infections reported overnight.

    Melbourne, the state capital, has been the only source of community transmissions in the country for weeks.

    More than 1,300 officials are now combing "hotspot" suburbs in Melbourne to carry out a massive testing "blitz".

    "Rather than waiting for an unsustainable number of community transmission to become known, we are going to go literally door-to-door, we are bringing the public health response to your doorstep," said Victoria Premier Daniel Andrews.

    He said the authorities were hoping to test as many as 100,000 people over 10 days.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    THIS ^^^^^^^^^ is how you keep this thing clamped down.
    Here in the US we would be patting ourselves on the back with an outbreak of 33 cases.
    Agreed, this is the sort of response we needed on day one, instead we asked people to drive to 'testing centers'. Every moment that we go out and interact with others however is a moment where we risk contracting the virus.
    As far as i can tell, testing is not available to anyone that wants it. In my state you have to go through a process to be approved to get a test first. In other words, you have to be symptomatic.
    I think this is true in lots of states.
    By which point, it's too late considering the asymptomatic are the ones who spread the virus. I think it's time for States to change their strategy. Considering the Chinese have apparently tested 90 million.
    And worse yet, the asymptomatics will shed the virus the most on the day before symptoms start to break out and in report after report after report is being noted that on the day before the outbreak, asymptomatics feel especially good and healthy.
    Karma. It is karma.
    Soooo, with 1/2 hour left in my day, 2.5 hours left in WorldOMeter's day and 6.5 hours left on the East Coast of the USA, the world has climbed up to 9,874,000:
    2020-06-026 COVID-19 Late evening worldwide update 001.png
    The excel table:
    2020-06-026 COVID-19 Late evening worldwide update - excel table.png
    There is once again a disparity in the +daily cases, this time a 944 disparity. 944 cases were added to the total for 2020-06-025 after I wrote the analysis, which means that WorldOMeter increased the numbers for 2020-06-025 after EOD. I've written a number of times that this is likely to happen often. So, we've already jumped about +171,000 cases. In the last 2 weeks, in the last two hours of WorldOMeter's day, this number has risen about 20,000 cases more, so it would not surprise me to see that we are just hanging under 9.9 million when I wake up in the morning.
    Also, the worldwide deaths are currently at 495,386. I give it a 100% probability that the world goes over 10 million C19 cases tomorrow, Saturday, 2020-06-027 and also reaches or goes past 500,000 deaths worldwide.
    Sadly, I have to agree. Strong Govt leadership in a crisis is only half the battle. The other half is the willingness of the people to join the fight.
    That's where New Zealand, Thailand, Vietnam, Taiwan, Australia, Japan, Korea, Greece, etc differ. Not all of these nations have leaders we'd have voted for, and not all their leaders are 'great guys', but they have the advantage of leading people who are prepared to join forces against the common enemy.
    A good example is happening in Australia as we speak. One state has had outbreaks in the community in past week or so. We're talking 20 or 30 new cases a day, which isn't much by world standards, but unacceptable by Australian standards. Anyway, the citizens are going crazy reporting people who break protocols. This is why we stomp the virus .. because the vast majority of us support whatever needs to be done to that effect.
    Right now, state strategy is gated by test availability.
    For example, there is nowhere near enough tests available to do testing and contact tracing or to implement the plan Trump had CDC create - which is on whitehouse.gov. (A plan Trump lobbies hard against.)
    Plus, testing materials and analysis are not equally available in each state. There is no guarantee that any state will get more testing, no matter what they do.
    It seems pretty clear that greater testing would require federal assistance and coordination, but Trump is OPPOSED to more testing. Besides lobbying agains it, he is cutting funds.
