Given that and the support for the rioters in the first place, Liberals cannot in good faith say they’d be in favor of tougher measures.

The spectacular failure of State Governments aside(Whom at once wanted to claim responsibility for success but when failures occurred want to dump it back to the Presidency) we also face logistics of masks, swabs and PPE. Much of which has been brought out by the Chinese and other governments! Then you get into asymptomatic persons and the uncertainty around the masks and the whole thing is one giant mess.

The countries that pushed a unified virus response saw their economies contract a fraction of the USA

Now America are on Travel Restrictions having Failed to contain the Virus

At the same time as WHO was warning that a pandemic was a very real possibility Trump said there was nothing to worry about, the Chinese were doing a great job and he was on top of it. Then went golfing.

 

It should be noted as well that the Eurozone had a 12.1% decline in the same quarter. Just over 1/3 the US decline. Not a feather in the cap for the US response.

GDP is always the annualized rate for consistency. You don't change it to suit your agenda because then it becomes meaningless. That the Eurozone is so much better by comparison is an indication of the US failure to minimize the pain
