75 years after world war II ended, Germany is still paying reperations to Holocaust victims. Jim Crow ended only 45 years ago, yet no reperations. Germany gave Israel billions of dollars in infrastructure to help build the Jewish state. What has America done to right the terrible wrongs of American Apartheid?
Reparations for slavery was paid by freeing slaves and making them citizens. Reparations for segregation was paid by the civil rights act. Reparations are meant to repair. By banning laws discriminating against black people it has been repaired. The black people that were forbidden from attending college and buying houses in certain areas should have gotten admittance or be allowed to buy what house they could afford. Giving money to black people because at one time in our history they were treated poorly is not a reparation because it isn't repairing anything. It's buying loyalty. Ever wonder why it's such a partisan issue?
Yep . . . let's tell all of those Brown Hispanic Americans and Native Americans and Italian Americans and Asian Americans that THEY owe money to Blacks in order to make White despising White leftists feel less guilty for the EVIL of having been born melanin challenged. Good luck to the increasingly insane Dem Party politicians in getting their votes after that.
So someone in 2020 should be punished for something he or she had nothing to do with more than two centuries ago. Only a democrat could think like this. For them it's always about punishing people.
Nope. In fact I disagree with post 6. Racism is not ingrained nor a part of the American DNA. I doubt you could even fill MetLife stadium with the amount of racists in this country.
I see, so it wasn't that you misunderstood, you just wanted to interject your opinion. Ok, checked off. Goodbye!
Horse ****, that whole post above is a racist trope and misconception. It's little more than excuse making on a grand scale.
Well my question had to do with the OP proposing reparations for segregation, not slavery. I was curious if he really wanted both, or if he just thinks segregation as a reason to give black people money is easier to do since you don't need to trace bloodlines to determine eligibility. But reparations is already in the Democratic Platform as of this year, so it will never be removed and will become a permanent political issue for as long as the country lasts.
I had 2 distant cousins, both underage, both from upstate New York, who enlisted in the Union army when the civil war broke out. They both died, during that war, which preserved the union and ended slavery. Hundreds of thousands of men died, to free the slaves. Would not the 'reparations!' to those families who sacrificed loved ones to free the slaves be (at least) equivalent to the injustices of slavery? A simple, 'Thanks!', would be more appropriate, than demands for free stuff.
That's the standard answer for anyone wanting to give reparations to anyone. "Come on man", some of us with fat fingers, no spell-check, and a 9th grade education are doing the best we can. Let's not require perfect spelling to join in a discussion. "It is what it is". Did you mean to twice insert the word "first" in your criticism? Let's all laugh at our typos
Yes, I did it on purpose but at least the spelling is correct. It just seems like a bad idea to allow illiterate people to decide policies.
Ont thought all those who speak of reparations like to ignore... Generally, they endorse taking the assets of people who had nothing to do with creating the problem in question, and giving them to people who were generally not among those affected by the problem in question. While this kind of logic is certainly rational to a left-thinker, it is demonstration of the limitation they deal with, not the "wisdom" of their perception of things. Nothing you can do will change the past, including re-writing books, tearing down statues, lying to your children, or thinking you are buying yourself out of the guilt you have been led to believe your great-great grandfather was responsible for. Not will it help those you think to buy off; it will but convince them that you agree you responsible for their satisfaction in life, without limits, and they are responsible for nothing. The future is controlled by what we do today to build a better tomorrow- not by trying to pretend history can be changed. We need builders... not whiners, more than ever.
OK. Did you know that some people with a hearing difficulty will spell a word the way they hear it? And a southerner might spell a word differently from a New Yorker. A good example is "dog" and "dawg"
See nothing wrong with those suggestions....but unless Republicans can somehow figure out a way to make themselves rich by making reparations to Blacks, it probably won't happen.
The definition of illiterate is someone unable to read or write. That sounds like a harsh definition for someone who is a poor speller or someone who makes a typo. I never met a person who didn't make mistakes.
Mistake? LOL! The main point of this thread is reparations.....you would think someone who feels so strongly about something would at least know how to spell it.
