I guess this isn't surprising. The requirements look like affirmative action quotas. What affect will this have on artistry:

Just when you thought movies couldn't possibly be any more infused with PC BS. The Nobel Committee should create a special prize for Service to Humanity and award it to Roku.

Art now has rules and must meet societal norms?

No it doesn’t. An award show doesn’t decide what’s art.

In the Academy's mind they do. If they could enforce their standards across the medium they would, and if they can influence others to black list the newly defined avantgarde, ...they already do.

    Cheers

Why is it so important to the left to count races, genders, religions, etc every time they walk into a room? If they really want to see these people on TV, then all they need to do is watch the commercials. With rules like this in place, the Godfather might not have won any awards.

The "standards" seem super easy to meet.

In fact, over 90% of the Films to be released ALREADY meets these "standards" (without prodding)

Libs love quotas because they can say they are really helping when in fact they aren't. Dr. King talked about a color blind society, and judging people (or in this case movies) on the content of their character. Libs dont' want to do that....throw them a bone...that's all the Libs are about.

Watch a lot of award shows do you? I don’t, and I don’t care how they pick the winners.

So last years Best Picture Parasite would not be eligible. It was a Korean film. Everyone was Korean. Not diverse enough.

Guess that means there will be no more Korean best pictures again, ever.

Lots of people would do things if they could. Good thing they can’t.
Only intelligent thing kanye ever said was “I don’t understand award shows”

A little, up to the point they started telling me I needed to like actors of color more then any of the others. Then there is the whole white man guilt they bombard the viewers with and finally made me feel so bad about myself I started contemplating cutting myself or flagellation. PC is really ruining every ones lives today :(

This essentially says that there's an issue with straight white men... and even though straight white men have been making movies that everyone enjoys, it's still an issue according to the woke folk.

"Diversity" is a sanitized way of saying "too many white people" (especially straight white men), yet they'll have you believe it's not exactly what they claim to be fighting against.

I like to watch movies. But what the actors do off the set is of no interest to me at all. They can include whatever rings their bell.

Disagree with this decision 95%.... reserving 5% because their hearts are in the right place, but this doesn't make any sense to me...

Excellence in any field shouldn't depend on who is doing it...

Never thought I'd be in general agreement with this broad, but strange times make for strange bedfellows (so to speak)

LOL. The Oscars are a circle-jerk masturbatory event. The couple of times I've watched a movie because of the Oscar, I was disappointed. The best picture winner is rarely the best picture, IMO.

Who cares what their criteria is? Sometimes I think the criteria is "which one was seen by the least people, so we can pretend to be uppity snobs who appreciate and understand fine art more than the proles."

This thread prompted me to look at the last decade of Best Pictures... Either I'm getting old or the movies are getting worse (has to be the latter, right??)

2010 - The Kings Speech... Seen it twice... Meh.... Should have been The Social Network (still super relevant 10 years later)
2011 - The Artist - Never Seen it... No interest - Moneyball was a fun movie, but no Oscar winner either
2012 - Argo - Fine... Last I'll fully agree with
2013 - 12 years a Slave - Seen it once.. No desire to see it again...Captain Phillips is probably the best of that lot.
2014 - Birdman - WTF - Turned it off after about an hour... Whiplash is a much more interesting movie, although not great either
2015 - Spotlight - Watchable, but I've become a late convert to The Martian... Didn't like it when it first came out, but grew on me
2016 - Moonlight - See The Artist - Zero alternative choice
2017 - The Shape of Water - See The Artist again - Liked Three Billboards myself....
2018 - Green Book - Not a bad movie at all.... probably the clear best that year
    2019 - Parasite - One time watch.... Distant 3rd to Ford v Ferrari and/or 1917
2020 - Ought to be interesting... What's even coming out in COVID times?

Nope, I saw the light, "I saw the light I saw the light no more darkness no more night
Now I'm so happy no sorrow in sight praise the Lord I saw the light"

Actually happened my senior year HS in the Bay Area.. I just used the the award era as a point because brain washing is far more prevalent today then in the late 60's..
