Should Biden push TPP to put the intellectual property protections back into TPP and then invite China to join along with us?
He will join anything they want him to. Protections for America don't matter for this administration, only being liked.
I don't think we should be in any long term entanglements and certainly not in ones where we don't have a clear advantage.
I say no. He should re-take the TPP where Obama left off, and then negotiate a separate trade agreement with China in which intellectual property protections are included. The TPP should be like a sword hanging over their head. Especially to get them to stop supporting NK.
And you don't think protecting our intellectual property rights would offer us an advantage we don't have now? You don't think a level playing field with the current CPTTP members would be to our advantage?
I think the whole point of TPP is to make China irrelevant... or not as relevant.... if we decide to tighten the noose. We can't "entice" China. They need to be prodded.
Well SOB. As Trump era ends, massive new Asian trade deal leaves U.S. on the sidelines https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/worl...-s-on-the-sidelines/ar-BB1b35f0?ocid=msedgntp
Has Trump's idiocy closed the window on the TPP? https://www.cnbc.com/2020/11/16/rce...ing-china-sign-worlds-largest-trade-deal.html
Well, looks like the party is happening, with or without us. Probably not what Trump thought would happen, he thought that the rest of the world would grovel at the feet of the US, apologize and beg to do business with us, no matter what silly demands Trump has. It looks like they say (to paraphrase) "shove your America first policy, we are doing trade with or without you".
We can thank Trump for yet another blunder that will take us decades to recover from (if ever). U.S. out, China in.... and nothing else changes... for them. For us it's a huge loss. I don't know if Trumpers are tired of the U.S. "winning" yet, but I'm getting tired of losing. And he still has 2 months to do even more damage to this country.
These are the kinds of errors that will make us less competitive in the world. While Trumpette's give undo credit to the Orange Menace for his love for tariffs, which have hurt the US economy and cost jobs, China advances their dominance in Asia............taking advantage of their useful idiot.
Um cutting tariffs on palm oil, say goodbye to the Orangutan. It went to critically endangered due to palm oil, this should complete the extinction. The left is no longer the left or anything resembling the left.
Trump's trade war increased the demand for palm oil. Short-term palm boost after China tariff on U.S. soybeans - traders https://www.reuters.com/article/uk-...-tariff-on-u-s-soybeans-traders-idUKKCN1HC100
Not only is this bad for trade. Also politically. The likelihood of getting a psycho like KJU under control is almost null, now that Trump has done away with our influence over China. This added to the fact that the orange blob already conceded everything Kim wanted, while getting absolutely nothing in return. He was played by the world's worst dictators like the idiot that he is. It's unbelievable that one person could have done so much damage in just four years.
As if Trump and Trumpers cared for Orangutans. I still remember the thread when Trumpers defended Eric's and Don junior's big game hunting exploits of endangered species in Africa. For the good of the animals...
China is already a WTO member which is covered under the TRIPS agreement. What makes you think they would suddenly start obeying international law with a new agreement when they've ignored it with the ones they are already a signatory to?
So your reply is a 94 page law review article from 2008? Heh, I'm guessing I really asked the question you have no answer to!
https://money.cnn.com/2017/01/23/news/economy/tpp-trump-china/ Trump had a chance to gain greater leverage over China but blew it US multinationals believe TPP pact would have been more effective than trade tariffs https://www.ft.com/content/c048cb1e-4fa5-11e9-b401-8d9ef1626294
Nice article, but I guess you didn't understand the question that you replied to, since your article doesn't come close to answering it. I'm starting to notice a trend. When you can't answer a question, but don't want to leave it dangling out there, post some random link and question answered! That's cute!
