I dunno, but the old tesla plant is still in fremont. My parents actually met there when it was a GM plant.

I worked at the GM plant in 1964 for 3 months when construction was dry. We got sent home for the changeover and at the same time Consrtuction picked up and I went back in the trade of pile driving. Never went back inside that plant again. i moved from Fremont, CA to here in Meridian, ID. Here is what I doubt I will get used to. Nights upon nights below freezing. Fremont does have some but much less of the freezing temps. It is only 36 outside this moment.

 

My dad hired on in 68 and worked there even after it became a Toyota plant. My mom was one of the first women hired when it was GM. Got her off welfare.

I worked where the Frames came into the plant from outside. I was inside and installed clips for the fuel and brake lines, rubber bumpers for the pair of front springs, and the engine mounts. Been a long time but my memory is good. Things I recall in the plant.
We called the supervisors white shirts. They all were told to wear white shirts and slacks. When the line stopped, they rushed to the stoppage like they were a team of football players to tackle the problem. I laugh now at how fast they ran. We had 2 breaks plus lunch time. Blacks did not show up to work on Mondays. I asked why and was told because they got paid on Friday. Sure some blacks did show up. But most or many did not. When I worked in pile driving, I recall one black guy for years and later a second showed up. Black 1 was very reliable. Black 2 was busted for going to his PU truck and drinking booze. Superintendent fired him when he saw him. Black 1 was going by the first name of Creighton. I enjoyed working with him.

 

Did you live in Fremont at the time? I moved there in 1964 and left for good in 2019.

I am concerned about the bugs, which probably kills of Tennessee too. Hurricanes don't bother me. I wouldn't stick around during that time of year.

 

My best friend moved their 2 years ago and loves it. We grew up hunting, fishing, skiing, and playing virtually every sport. It's a real consideration.... I would very much like to get back into fishing lakes and rivers.

 

My good friend is Tony Tinderholt who a top rated Conservative Member of the Texas State house. His district is in Arlington, just outside Ft. Worth. I could see getting a home off Lake Arlington.

You live in the Ft. Worth area? If so, 1 to 10 how would you rate it.

My problem with the Pan Handle is the lack of proximity to a major airport and the bugs... maybe the humidity. I travel to Washington D.C., Tri-Cities (Washington State), and Knoxville, TN during the year for work. Then again, more and more "teleconferences" are happening. It's just that I am really good in person when it comes to business and have some pretty cool friends at each local, so I like going. Once my son finishes High School, I would like to start taking my wife on my travels.

 

True. But, I have been living in Huntington Beach, CA for decades, so I understand how to be polite, but not affected by tourists. Also, Florabama.... is AWESOME! I have some real close family in Mobile, Fort Walton, Gulf Shores, and my Dad moved all the way inland from Las Vegas to Ocala (just above Orlando).

No, I'm in Austin for now....will probably move to one of the Republican neighboring cities when the authoritarian socialist city council taxes me out of my property in a few years. There are a lot of fun things to do in Austin and the people are laid back and friendly, but government is turning the city limits into a place for the rich and the homeless, with no middle.

 

You know what I noticed about Austin when I visited my daughter who graduated from there? It's shabby looking, at least around the campus and the middle class neighborhoods. Old couches sitting on porches, raggedy lawns not trimmed.

No offense, but I think it's a little too laid back.

 

Why can't California keep poop off it's streets and why are they too lazy to make 1/3 of their electricity? Why are Californians leaving California? They don't come to Texas for the handouts.

 

I know, right? Everyone in Houston is dead.

 

You don't want to live in Dallas or Tarrant counties. The taxes and insurance are higher. Figure out where you are working and plan to commute into DFW if necessary from 25-40 miles from downtown Ft Worth or Dallas. I live 27 miles from downtown Dallas and it's a 40 minute drive to Dallas City Hall during rush hour. My car insurance is 1/2 of the cost in Dallas County. The schools are more conservative and crime is lower. Since I am dispatched from home in all directions, I may move a little further out on some acreage.

 

The last time I had to be in Houston, it occurred to me that, yes, DEATH might be preferable.... It was during the month of July, many years ago, and I thought I was going to DIE!

Hey, I'm a native Texan! I love the Lone Star State, even though I migrated to Colorado so long ago. But I never had any love for Houston, which has nothing in it that has ever been of any interest to me.... Houston is a 'necessary evil' that is helpful in driving the enormous engine of prosperity in the State of Texas, and that is perhaps its only redeeming virtue....

 

What are you taking about? Do you have any idea how many employees Texas Instruments, Motorola, Dell, and Apple have in Texas, just to name a few high tech companies in the Austin area? There are more in Dallas and Fort Worth. Not to mention Lockheed, Airbus, Bell Helicopters and more.

There are thousands of Teslas in Texas. I think Elon knows a little more about the state than you do.

I agree you can't be delicate and enjoy Houston in the summer, but you know, Dallas actually gets much hotter than Houston. Temps over 105, up to 109, are not uncommon in Dallas. Not so Houston, which at least enjoys breezes from the gulf.

 

My daughter moved to San Diego from Texas and never wants to leave. Of course, she a Navy doc in San Diego and is protected from m much of the insanity we see in L.A.

 

Why do you have it up for sale on Zillow? Can't afford the property taxes in Travis County, or the utility bills necessary to cool the house so that it is not an OVEN during the seven-month Central Texas summer...?

Don't pay any attention to me; I'm being a jerk. I lived in Austin for a number of years, and went to the University of Texas there. I loved it, actually, but it sure turned into a gigantic, hyperliberal crap-pile just about ten years after I left. Now, I'll always be glad I left, although I've missed it -- or, at least the Austin I USED to know long ago, when it was wonderful!

Today? When I go back there, my 'loftiest' ambition would be to go downtown and piss from the top of the 'Austonian'....

I spent 6 years there on Ft Hood. Didn't get to see much of Tx because I was deployed constantly. That said, I am gonna start looking into moving back there now.
