During his first days in office, President-elect Joe Biden plans to send a groundbreaking legislative package to Congress to address the long-elusive goal of immigration reform, including what’s certain to be a controversial centerpiece: a pathway to citizenship for an estimated 11 million immigrants who are in the country without legal status, according to immigrant rights activists in communication with the Biden-Harris transition team.

The bill also would provide a shorter pathway to citizenship for hundreds of thousands of people with temporary protected status and beneficiaries of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals who were brought to the U.S. as children, and probably also for certain front-line essential workers, vast numbers of whom are immigrants.

Biden must do as much as possible to take advantage of his majority in Congress.

Voters rejected Alt Right identity policies based on xenophobia and the marginalization of immigrants.

    A new era is beginning.

Why should we reward 11 million criminals who cut the line in front of the immigrants we want to welcome as our fellow citizens with open arms?

Because almost all of them contribute to society without having the protections that come with it.

This is an injustice that must be corrected.

That they will join the ranks of Democratic voters is your only argument for denying them citizenship.

Either Chairman Joe is following up on the DNC memo stating Latinos are the party’s future, or he’s the most cucked white man in the country who’s trying to take down his own majority.

But they're not supposed to be here. What other criminals should we reward for breaking the law?

Straw man. Expecting people to obey the duly-enacted laws of a sovereign nation is not an injustice.

Two fallacies in one sentence! I am not the topic of this thread. Another argument could be what we call the rule of law.

Well it's not exactly a surprise... Put that in conjuncture with minimum wage hikes & do we really need a Biden economist to forecast the outcome... ? Many overly qualified laborers will be stuck & countless millions will be UN-Stuck ~ (as in no hope for legal employ at that rate)...

Besides Obama, who else did that? You are aware that Obama started that trend, right?

Republicans have been boasting about the inroads they say they have made into hispanic communities. Here is an opportunity to show everyone just how real that is.

Obama had processing centers that provided all the necessities, didn't break up families and let everyone out after 2 weeks pending a court date.

You mean lawfully detaining them for violations of law, of course. And placing their children in protective custody as wards of the state where they are fed, clothed, educated, and securely housed. Your phony conflation of the incarceration of criminals with concentration camps is a deep insult to the actual victims of concentration camps and the height of cynicism.

That said, considering both parties have lawfully incarcerated unlawfully present persons, what happens to your ridiculous "argument" now??

I'm not so sure that's necessarily a foregone conclusion. Considering the majority of illegal aliens currently illegally residing in the U.S. come from heavily-Catholic Latin America, it is conceivable that some may not be so comfortable with the Democratic positions on abortion, gay marriage, transgender stuff, etc.. I think it is assumed by the Left (and the Right frankly) that they "own" the brown and black folk. Remember deep deep blue California who easily handed President Obama two comsecutive elections also voted for Prop. 8, which denied same-sex marriage at the state constitutional level. The assumption was the same African Americans who were understandably happy to vote for the second black president (remembering Clinton was touted as the first lol), also tend to lean socially conservative due to deep religious traditions in the black community.

So I'm not so sure the brown vote is automatically a lock for the donkeys...

Same can be said for Puerto Rico if they're considering statehood.

I think it would be poetic justice if Biden waved Obama's magic wand (oh the visual!) and poof 11 million overnight citizens vote for Nikki Haley in 24.

A court date nobody shows up to...

The left loves it. Imagine crossing the Italian border into Switzerland without any skills, money, education, language etc. Then Swiss leftists lobbying for you to be able to stay while they subsidize your entire families existence. Unimaginable.

I take issue with calling illegals immigrants. I came here as an immigrant
which by definitions means I arrived hear legally. Well to be hinestbI was so young that I am not sure I actually remember getting off the ship.
Reality is my parents went through all the legal steps of being vetted and including vaccines. I found my immigration vaccine book ( documents) a few years ago in my parents safe when I was appointed estate administrator. Illegals do not have any immigration paperwork they are With Out Papers. W.O.P. or more kindly UNDOCUMENTED .

Ok I do not hate illegals as people but illegals are criminals because they broke the wall just as if they committed burglary. Now DACA people once called kids who were brought here by there parents I believe that should have a pathway to citizenship.

Do to the crazy volume of illegals we cannot practically deport 11 million criminals. Except for the DACA kids we do need a way to render the undocumented with someorm of legal status. Anyone of them that committed anything more than a speeding ticket should not qualify for a chance at legal status.

Legal status is not and should not be citizenship. Legal status should be a chance for a green card making them a legal residentbalien. Key word alien.

DACA. can have a pathway to citizenship but not illegals on that a chance for a green card is a big enough gift.

Do you recall the photos of kids in cages that went viral after Trump was elected and the left slammed him For It? And do you recall how the slamming immediately stopped when it was discovered the photos were taken in 2014 and Obama put them there?

Open the gates, hand out the goodies, lock up them votes for the future.

Maybe this will be enough to sway the voting preferences of certain Latin groups. We'll see.

The left will play the race card and blacks will be pushed aside with Mexicans taking their place at the top of the pyramid of victimhood.

Let’s say you’re a newly created citizen and you have 300 relatives in Mexico who desperately need food stamps. Who ya gonna vote for?
