I don't recall this being the case when I was younger, only for the past 30-40 years or so.

Are the DCP states called blue states because they are depressed?

Yes it's a stupid question like the OP?

Are you a child? Where were you in the general election of 2000?

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_states_and_blue_states

That year, the networks simply arbitrarily designated the Republican voting areas with the color red and the Democratic ones as blue. It was simply an arbitrary decision not based on anything. But out of that simple color designation grew the "red state/blue state America" thing.

Can't believe you didn't know that.

Blue from blue bloods, Europe's old hereditary, and often hemophiliac, due to too much inbreeding, aristocracy... Hey whatever silly idea you can come up with...

The colors used to be reversed but then in the eighties or earlier, red became known as a power color. Red ties were seen as power ties and red became a very popular color for ties. It was because of this “power” issue that Republicans began to insist that their color be red.

This is rather ironic when compared to eye color. In the movies, it is monsters who have menacing red eyes, as is the blood that flows. The hero who saves the day has bright blue eyes, like the sky on a sunny day.

Did you ever notice that in the sixties and seventies it was common to hear conservatives say, “better dead than red”. Since the election of the Trump, they have become rather soft on the Russians. Putin was paying a bounty on American soldiers heads, and the Trump and its following didn’t even bat an eye.

"The Red Army (Krasnaya Amiya) was a common name for the Russian National Military forces from 1918 to 1946, which was known by the abbreviation RKKA (Workers' and Peasants Red Army). The name refers to the color red. In the workers movement red symbolized the blood shed in the struggle against oppression." From RUSSIAPEDIA

You DO realize I just told the OP his post about the Right in nonsense, right? A "good little disciple" wouldn't do that. Seriously...try to critically think every once in a while...it'll do you some good.

Well, post 9 actually offered an idea, but also the "Red Army" chose a red flag. Maybe that has something to do with it too.

The GOP color is red. They used to all be blue when they voted democrat. It makes for a prettier map on election night.

This is one of those mistruths that has been repeatedly shoved into the eagerly awaiting minds of conservadom. ‘The left, the Democrats, the liberals are authoritarian’. And sure enough we hear it parroted over and over. So much so that some have come to accept it as gospel truth. Yet here in America there is no one on the left, no Democrats, no liberals who are pushing anything close to authoritarian.

In fact the whole of the liberal movement, the liberal mindset is that of ever expanding rights and freedoms. It was liberals who formed the Republican Party and ended slavery. It was the liberals who fought back conservative forces to give women, and then Blacks and other racial minorities, the right to vote. It was liberal forces who paved the way for homosexuals to have the right to marry. It was liberals who have fought off conservative intrusions into women’s reproductive rights. The Democrats have been fighting for a healthcare system, so that we all can have adequate healthcare, at a cost that is under control. And to have clean air, and wide open spaces that we can all enjoy.

And, of course, in case you have not been paying attention, it was mostly those on the left who spent the summer protesting police brutality, especially the over policing of Black communities.

The pattern continues into parenting styles as liberals tend to be considerably more lenient than conservatives, who tend to have a rather authoritarian approach to parenting. “Do as I say young man or I’ll give you a good butt warming”.

Then look at the fiasco of the last election cycle. It has long been known that when rates of voter participation are high, Democratic politicians and issues tend to win, whereas when voter participation is low, Republicans tend tend to win. It was mostly Republicans who first pushed through Oregon’s all mail-in voting system. After all, would not mail-in voting benefit those who live in rural areas? As predicted, voter participation topped the country, with only Minnesota voting as much. However, as the voter participation went up a curious thing happened. Oregon turned from red to blue. Possibly it was due to a demographic shift.

Then Washington, a purplish state adopted a similar voting system. Voter participation went up and the state turned mostly blue, just as Oregon had. Colorado followed suit, with a similar result. Somehow allowing more people to vote does not sound very authoritarian to me.

At least since the election of lil’ George Bush, it has become evident that the Republicans were winning races through voter suppression. An activity that became abundantly apparent in the election of 2016. When in some states, like Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, Democratic candidates would receive 60% of the vote but receive only 40% of the legislative seats.

It can be argued, actually it is being argued, that the governor of Georgia, Brian Kemp only won his seat because, as Secretary of State, he had purged large blocks of Black voters from the voting rolls. Blacks who most certainly would have mostly voted for Stacie Abrams, his opponent. As such, the Georgia voting system has been under a microscope like no other. Every aspect of the voting system has been being scrutinized and monitored. The result has been perhaps the cleanest election in the history of Georgia. The initial result was a shocker. Biden had clearly won. It was so hard to believe that they ran the ballots through the machines again. Exactly same result. Maybe it was the machines. So they counted the ballots by hand. The result was the same.

Yet who is it that wants to invalidate the will of the majority of the people to continue the ineptitude of a horrible creature? I could almost see people with authoritarian personalities flocking to a charming strong man, one with at least a modicome of ability. But the Trump is mostly just foul. Inept, ignorant, and foul. What y’all see in it is beyond me.
