When the vote to call witnesses passed this morning the Dems were surprised as hell. They thought for sure that it wouldn't pass. When it did and resulted in Trump's defense lawyers stating unequivocally that he would be calling many members of the Senate as witnesses the idea of calling witnesses was quickly reversed and discarded. Of course the media spun it as trying to get the impeachment done and over with so Biden's policies could be implemented. (something that is not certain will happen) But we all know that every single Senator that had the potential of being called as a witness considered the political ramifications of actually being called and what they would have to say if they were. And they didn't like the conclusion that came about due to that consideration. Oh they'll spin it for sure. Along with all those that supported Trump being impeached. For they too know that it wouldn't have turned out good for Democrats.

The Democrats tried to change the game and bring in witnesses. Trump's lawyer said if they do, then he will call in Pelosi as to why she cancelled the security before the rally. To protect Pelosi, the Democrats went to the closing arguments.

The House impeachment managers folded Saturday morning and backed off witnesses after Trump’s legal team announced that Speaker Pelosi would be called in to testify.

The Democrats went straight to closing arguments because they have no case and they wanted to protect Nancy Pelosi.

Trump’s legal team absolutely destroyed the Democrats this week when they showed a video montage of Democrat lawmakers inciting violence against Trump supporters.​

I think the Clinton trial had the exact same vote outcome. At least on Article 1. That time it was 10 Republicans that voted not guilt
