This is not a Fox News report. It's coming from MSNBC. He's already making enemies of his own base. Especially the progressives who helped him get elected. Bad decision on the WH's part? The author of the article thinks so.

    https://www.msnbc.com/opinion/biden-s-white-house-firing-staffers-marijuana-use-s-mistake-n1261700

The Daily Beast reported Thursday night that "dozens of young White House staffers have been suspended, asked to resign, or placed in a remote work program due to past marijuana use." That's even though some "staffers were informally told by transition higher-ups ahead of formally joining the administration that they would likely overlook some past marijuana use, only to be asked later to resign."

I don't think that is good employment policy.

For the record, I am all for legalization. But until that happens, smoking pot is illegal. Have we been conditioned by the past four years that we shouldn't uphold laws? If citizens across the country fail urine tests and are fired, why shouldn't those working at the WH be subjected to the same?

Even if they did legalize it, there are still quite a few jobs you couldn't have and still smoke pot. Any type of bus or truck driver, heavy equipment operator, or any job regulated by the DOT, just to name a few.

They are not being fired for current use according to the reports. They are being fired for any prior use.

    Which is outrageous IMO

The only thing I think this can be rationalized is that marijuana is still federally illegal. Hopefully that will change soon.

Same here, but lemme add, UNTIL it's legalized federally it will always be illegal even in states the allow it's use.. And sadly until more understandable and concrete guidelines on THC levels in the blood are determined companies can and do use it to fire people even if it's been DAYS since the person has used...

Especially in light of his former boss admitting to both marijuana and cocaine usage. This would make sense if they were talking about current usage but that is not what this article says. Very odd they would implement this policy.

I can understand from possibly a security perspective that they can't have people who committed "crimes" in the past serving, but that's a stretch at best. What purpose will this serve?

What his former employer did is irrelevant, his policy is. Hopefully he will correct it.

I don't have a prob with what his employer did previously just as I have no problem with what these employees previously did if they're no longer doing it. I just used it to accentuate the absurdity of this policy.

I don't see why not. What is the reason that you can't smoke pot Friday night after work and then go to work Monday completely sober? Is there some lingering side effects that I haven't heard about or is it just because that's the only test we know of?

So then Biden will be shutting down states who have legalized marijuana when it is still illegal under federal laws?

Because insurance companies covering those industries will demand it.

It is a shame to see Biden stuck in the past, but since the man is damn near 80 I am not sure anyone should be surprised.

That would depend upon which state you are in.

The folks in the WH were not fired for failing a urine test, but for having smoked at some time in the past, most of them years in the past.

Is it happening in states where marijuana is legal?

What would happen if insurance companies demanded that you couldn't drink alcohol any time within the last 30 days?

Lucky for us there is no test that can determine that or they just might.

I knew a guy back in the early 90s that was a firefighter that had to sign a employment contract with the city stating he would not smoke tobacco even as a condition of employment.
