Our previous pres is only one of many that fooled Americans into thinking they care about border security. I believe the issue is left to fester because it helps people get elected.

I support Biden's wall knowing that it is more for image than benefit. While few threads have practical in the real world, this one reveals common ground between parties. That has value in my book.

Don't you want a security system at your home to prevent break ins, not only to respond once they are already inside. This is why homes have signs outside letting would be burglars know that there is a security system? The problem in this country is the response you speak of is to put them up in hotel rooms, feed them, and provide free healthcare. It would make much more sense to send the message NOT to come here.

physical barriers slow people down. Of course they can be crossed, but if quick reaction forces placed at regular intervals with some teams on standby with helicopters are used in concert with drones, sensors, and cameras, I’ll bet we can cut the numbers way down. The wall will help slow them down so the teams can catch up. The border is under funded and under manned, thanks to political games.

If you call doing their job assigning a court date and then letting them go, then yes they are doing their job which is pointless.

Build the wall to discourage most who would want to come. Make it a challenge with real consequences. That alone should deter a large percentage of them. What we are doing now is NOT working.

You are right! I lived a couple of years in El Paso, Texas, myself. I was always against Trump's 'wall', and always said that for a fraction of the cost of building the damned thing (to say nothing of the annual cost of staffing and maintenance), instead we should have patrolled the border 24/7 with armed surveillance drones, backed up with highly-mobile intercept squads of military that would rapidly arrest survivors for immediate deportation! The drones could be remotely piloted by U. S. military personnel at computer consoles anywhere in the world, including Ft. Bliss! A relatively inexpensive, highly-effective solution, by any assessment....

Those measures, backed up by lethal and non-lethal anti-personnel devices (mines) deployed in high-density areas of illegal crossings would provide an effective STOPPAGE to all these invasions. But Trump didn't do that.

Worse, what he REALLY should have done would have been to declare a five year MORATORIUM on ALL migration for a period of five years... a badly-needed 'cooling-off' period after the Obama regime's total neglect of illegal aliens overrunning the country -- especially in 2014. But now, why, we've got "Obama 2.0", also known as Joe Biden! Thus, the insanity continues!

 

I agree that Presidents only pretend to care about illegal immigrants. Because they know it's only a political issue. Not one that would actually affect the country much. I wouldn't say the same about border security, though. Border security implies way more relevant things than just illegal immigration.

 

We agree on politicians not caring, but you will not be able to defend a position that it doesn't affect the country much.

 

Ft Bliss was or still is the Army's Air Defense school. We already have border patrol, no need for the US military and the drones don't need to be armed.
