Scammers are selling fake COVID-19 vaccination cards online

It's a federal offense to forge one these cards too?!! A lot of businesses,
cruise lines and to get into other countries require these cards. If you know any anti-vaxxers or someone who just don't want the vaccine shot but want the benefits of the card and they have a forged card, you can turn them in. Here is the covid-19 fraud hotline, HHS-TIPS (800-447-8477).

Criminals are looking to cash in on the U.S. immunization push against COVID-19 by selling forgeries of government-issued "vaccination record cards" that show people have been inoculated.

Hundreds of fraudsters are selling blank or forged versions of the cards over ecommerce sites including eBay, Etsy and Shopify, while also running advertisements for the fakes on Facebook, according to Saoud Khalifah, CEO of Fakespot, which uses artificial intelligence to detect online retail scams. And with names such as blankcovidcard.com, such sellers are hardly discreet.

"In January we started noticing Shopify stores selling fake vaccination cards, and that was really interesting because it introduced a new dynamic to society where people can counterfeit immunity and interplace it with a fake card," Khalifah told CBS MoneyWatch. "It's a new concept we haven't seen before."

Fakespot has identified hundreds of different sellers that have cropped up since the beginning of the year, and the firm estimates they've hawked thousands of false records over the past three months. Online retail sites have banned some bad actors, who then often reappear and sell fake cards under different names, according to Khalifah.

Help me out here. Shouldn’t we just mail out a blank vaccination card to everyone living thing in the country and trust they’d fill it out accurately?

 

This has been in the words for awhile. A con artist will figure out a way to capitalize on ANYTHING.

Fauci said the Feds aren't going to require the cards but schools and individual companies may require them.

Anyone thinking a vaccination card is a good idea.

 

The obvious negative is the potential for fraud, abuse, and faked cards.

Of course, myself (and others), have seen the black market fakes coming since last year.

Thankfully we won't need them in Florida because the Governor has already forbidden them.

Still, some brainwashed business owners may require them on their own.

I have a few friends at work who refuse to get the vaccine but are concerned about it being required to enter places in the future. I got the vaccine and photoshopped my name and birthday off the card and sent it to them. When I got my shots they told me to make copies and not carry around the original.

 

Should we get rid of handicapped parking placards because people fake them or abuse them? Or enforce the law more?
