I'm surprised in the current climate this didn't come out sooner. Who's right and wrong here? Will she win her suit:

We need to hire cops to police the cops.

She was going 10 miles an hour over, was listening to music so loud and was so oblivious that, according to her, she didn't even know that she was being chased, and they had to put spike strips out to stop her...

Lady: "Officer, why are you arresting me?"
Officer: "Ma'am, you had three police cars behind you trying to pull you over for the last 10 miles."
    Lady: "I know, but why?"

She lost the case right there. She just admitted, on video, that she knew they were there and trying to pull her over and she just kept going anyway....

She should. The arresting cop was way too emotional and dragging an old woman out of a car like that is horrendous. Even after they had her handcuffed and on the ground they were over emotional babies berating her.

Yeah. Cops should just wait around for YOU to be ready when you’re breaking the law. You understand they have no idea why this person is evading/ignoring them. Did she just murder someone? Does she have loads of coke in the car and she’s thinking of a plan? Who knows.

Or maybe she is just a 66 year old lady. They pulled ahead and saw who was driving before they stopped her. Plus murderers and drug kingpins don't calmly drive away at the speed of traffic.

If this part is true then I say she wins...

A Salisbury police officer involved in the stop "bragged about 'grabbing a handful of dreads,' and said 'at that point she earned it,'" the lawsuit said, citing footage from the officer's body camera.

Let me guess. Another refusing to comply situation leads to the getting handcuffed and put on the ground and now they want money for being treated poorly?

Okay but I got pulled for loud music once and I didn't hear the siren. I just happened to have looked in my rear view mirror and saw the lights. He asked why I didn't pull over sooner. I said I didn't hear a siren because I had the radio up real loud. I asked why I was being stopped and he said, "Because you have the radio up REALLY REALLY loud". He let me go though. It was only about a half mile from where I started off. I couldn't imagine going 10 miles and not notice someone behind me with flashing lights.

Theres nothing to trick. If you refuse to comply like driving over 10 miles with 3 cops running lights and siren behind you, you get treated according to your actions.
You should try it sometime. Lets us know how it works out for ya.

I see that you are going to overlook her repeated illegal behavior for the 10 miles, she makes it clear she should LOSE her license, because she isn't aware of her surroundings and going 10 mph over the limit with music so loud, for TEN MILES! it was taking away her driving awareness, becoming a danger to OTHER drivers.

They were understandably upset with her........

And all she has to do is cooperate and then they can determine that. I'm 67 if blue lights come on behind me do I get to ignore them and refuse their lawful orders?

Ha, ha...sort of like the woman who argued with my then state trooper cousin that he shouldn't cite her for speeding because she was going downhill. :eyepopping:

Failure to comply does not justify police abuse, it does not justify the comments from the police officer.

That does not excuse the use of excessive force. She could lose her license and still win the case against the force used

Failure to comply gets you handcuffed. If you resist you get treated in the fashion YOU started. That isn't police abuse. Its adolescent behavior that gets a response equal to the behavior.

First, you are taking the word of officers who manhandled an old woman. Even in the video the officer claims at one point the there were 3 cars, then at another it was 4. Give him some time and he will claim it was 20.

Also, instead of strip spikes, maybe just get in front and slow down.

The lady said that she saw the cops eventually but was in a work zone with no shoulder so she kept going to find a spot to pull over.

I am going to need to see dash cams to verify the 10 miles and anything else from the officers. What we have seen is bad enough.

All they had to do was show some patience. But his body cam shows him working himself up in a frenzy.

Now you're just making BS up. The officers on camera said they had been chasing her for 10 miles and she said, I know. So there goes that theory.

One officer even asked her why she didn't slow down when he pulled up beside her. She wouldn't even slow down then.

Really, when did she say that because it wasn't her excuse when she was eventually stopped. Never a mention that she couldn't pull over. She claimed she didn't know they were even there on camera but that didn't wash because she admitted to seeing the police car beside her. She continued to refuse to stop so that spiked her tires.
Anything else you want to make up?

I can understand your skeptical response, there will be more details coming, but the difference between 3 and four cars isn't that big a deal, she didn't notice them anyway for around 9.9 miles.

What about this alleged audio exchange?

"Lady: "Officer, why are you arresting me?"
Officer: "Ma'am, you had three police cars behind you trying to pull you over for the last 10 miles."
    Lady: "I know, but why?"

Driving for 10 miles is absurd, the police wants her stopped over 9 miles ago......

    From the article:

"CBS affiliate WBTV reports Bottom was going about 10 mph over the speed limit on Interstate 85, according to the lawsuit. By the time she realized she was being pulled over, spike strips were deployed to stop her as she looked for a safe place to pull off the highway, according to the court filing."

    bolding mine

There are too many problems with this woman to overcome, so far her only legitimate complaint is being pulled by her hair, which isn't legitimate, as for her arm injury her I really don't care since the dumbass made the police work so hard to stop this idiot to the point of having to destroy her tires to stop her, after she drove for 10 speeding MILES!. Interstate highways normally have wide shoulders, her excuse seems weak.

    From the article:

"Bottom pleaded guilty to failing to heed blue lights. She also was charged with speeding and resisting arrest but those charges were dismissed."

The police were angry having to deal with an idiot driver who was a danger to the highway and made the police chase her for 10 miles and stopped by destroying the tires. She had numerous violations in the process.

Evading arrest, was speeding for a long time

Music so loud she couldn't hear the police sirens, which is a danger to other people as she was OBVIOUSLY distracted!

The one thing the police could do better is not pull her hair at all, but grabbing her arm is valid to get her bottom out of the vehicle.
