The US Chamber of Commence just released a report that gives another factual representation of Biden's failed socialist policies. Millions out of work, a surplus of jobs and easing of covid restrictions and still no ones out job hunting? Red states that have reopened are doing better on average than most blue ones. Job searches have spiked in states that refuse Biden's federal benefit extension. Seems alot like Biden's committed to reducing the US workforce to a collection of demoralized "fat lazy Americans" foreigners make fun of. VP Kamala is actively encouraging woke corporations to outsource US jobs and investments too. I'm not aware of anything Biden's done for US workers, and Joe's even looking to outsource what he promised to "build back better". The only union Joe hasn't betrayed? Teachers that'll only return if CRT and gender fluidity are primary courses. https://thehill.com/policy/finance/...-of-commerce-worker-shortage-crisis-deepening
I 100% sympathize with folks who were laid off from minimum wage jobs and have no interest in returning to making $7.25 an hour flipping burgers and stocking shelves when they can sit at home collecting much more in benefits. Phase the benefits out (i.e. if you get a min-wage job, your benefits decrease by some percentage of your pay) and reinstate the seeking work eligibility requirement. That will get folks back to work. The minimum wage needs a bump, too, but that's way less likely to happen.
Are you telling me a worker shortage doesn’t help those who will work? Sounds like that’s the real problem then
Really? Workers not wanting to return to work accounts for the shortage? How exactlty did you overlook me saying that in my OP? I also point out that in states where Biden's handouts have been declined, more people are out looking for jobs.
Except their value did not actually go up. This will lead to the inflation consumer products even more.
The only businesses able to pay these inflated wages are the large conglomerates which again reduces wealth by eliminating small businesses. The backbone of the US economy. Small businesses cannot survive on a 2-6% GM with over inflated wages. You know this, right?
The fact that people can now take care of their family by working just one full-time job... and no longer need two or three, have placed a burden on businesses that can only survive if they pay their employees less than a fair living wage. Is that a bad thing? Absolutely not!
Have fun "collecting" while foreign workers sweep in and take all future job opportunities from you. That unemployment isn't gonna last forever! My sister has recently been giving her BF grief for taking a job that pays just about what he was getting from unemployment. I'm glad this guy knows how to think "long term". Much respect out there to the people who can see past this and realize their dream about getting paid to play video games at home in their boxers is not a PERMANENT thing.
Well yes they can charge what ever they want technically. Employees are just like any other commodity. The end product price goes up when the price of the commodity used to make the product goes up. We are already seeing this.
That another thing! I'm sure recently admitted refugees would be thrilled to take those jobs. Thanks for providing yet another great argument. So there you have it: what we need is to admit more refugees and... problem solved. And there is no shortage of them, you know....
Perhaps their value did go up. There is an old saying in sports that the most important ability is availability. Many companies take their workers for granted and treat the like ****. Maybe now they are coming to realize that they actually need those folks that will show up
Not a big fan of the Chamber of Commence. We should start to see the jobs and employment reports coming out soon.
If you despise Americans so much, you might want to keep that to yourself. It isn't a good look. Neither is celebrating the unemployment of American citizens. Seriously, what gives? that is pretty sad
What the hell are you talking about? Did you read (or did you not understand) the OP? This thread is about "worker shortage"... NOT "work shortage"
Large companies will advocate for higher wages while at the same time, automating a large portion of their workforce..... Falsely inflating wages only harms small businesses and benefits large corporations who can weather wage inflation while automating positions. This is the epitome of "cutting your nose off to spite your face" as in the long run, wage stagnation will only get worse when even more small businesses start to close and the UEB dries up...
I don't see the difference. Where I live (here in Florida), most businesses are now paying $15 an hour. They would not get workers otherwise. And I think that's great! I know people who had to work 2 jobs to make ends meet. And now they do fine with just one. What is the problem with this?
It didn't. Think De Beers and diamonds. The price is artificially high because diamonds artificially removed from and kept off the market. Extended UE with the $300 increase is artificially keeping workers off the market. It's will just lead to inflation.
Really? so you do not see the difference of people sitting at home just waiting to be paid more to there being nobody for companies to hire even if they did pay more? Really?
I agree that extended UE is keeping workers off the market. But it is at the same time showing employers that it is hard to run a business with no workers. There is value in being in the building that was missed before
