A True History Of The United States

It's not about good and bad. It's about honestly confronting our real history.

 

It's the political leaders in the cities who ignore the killings. Well they're not really leaders.

There is little I hate more than spoiled Americans living in this country hating on it while completely ignorant to the world that surrounds them.

 

The problem with most people that have issues with the country, especially historically, is because they desire to hold the countries history to today's standards ethically and morally.

 

I'll second that. We need to stand up for our country and challenge the haters.

 

All countries have "real" history. No one assumes that our ancesters or anybody's ancestors are sinless.
What we see from the left is not "confronting history" but demonization of the United States.

 

And upon what do you base your assessment? Its a great thing to be patriotic and love your country, but to suggest it is better than all other countries is foolhardy. There are many wonderful places to live in the world, where freedom is every bit as important and valued as the US.

 

Perhaps those 'haters' you mention are merely challengers. They may well love their country but want to see it 'better'. Without challengers, the US wouldn't be the country it is today. Sad that you think all must love everything about their country in order not to be 'haters'.

 

I don't recall his hating America or mocking it. He mocked may Americans, of course, but not nearly as many as those who mocked him.

 

I think everybody should think their country is the best in the world. I wish it were that way everywhere.

 

Well we got more people moving in than moving out. What does that tell you?

You want to make excuses for the haters be my guess. I don't accept their poor excuses or poor examples. If someone has a problem with a USA leader that is fine with me -- but on the whole the USA is one great country.

 

I'm not suggesting the US is not a great country. But I am curious as to how to judge it to be 'the best'. I am also commenting upon the fact that blind patriotism is not a good thing - I would much rather have questioners and challengers to make it better.

 

That's my point - there are people the world over who love their country and may think it is 'the best'. But to make a blanket statement like that shows an arrogance that is not based upon anything other than opinion. Also, when you consider yourself to be 'best', you often rest on your laurels. I, for one, appreciate those who see weaknesses and shine a light upon them in the desire to strengthen and improve.

 

Better than what? There may always be room for improvement but that requires specific suggestions and specific recommendations -- not just moronic criticism. When Obama said he would fundamentally change the country loony people actually cheered without knowing what change he wanted.

 

On that we can agree - criticism without recommendations are useless. And whether you liked the changes or not, the country did change under Obama. In fact, the country has changed under every president.

 

I wish all the warts here would move back to California.

 

Summary of why I should watch someone without a history degree lecture me on history?

Fair point but americans should gobble up ANY HISTORY available since they generally start with zero knowledge of it, for understandable reasons *cough* 300 years of racial slavery *cough*

 

There’s a lot of historical scholarship out there. Some good. A lot bad.

 

Indeed, particularly in americas case. Its almost like a horror story not history.

 

If you’re a Bible believer, you no doubt believe that people are imperfect. America has brought more people out of poverty than any other country in human history. That’s not a horror story.

 

Get back to me when leftists ever recognize what history and quit trying to blame people many of whose ancestor fought against those injustices for those injustices.
