MAD (Mutually Assured Destruction) is what has kept the peace and precluded nuclear war since the 1950's. If you would like to discuss the specifics about nuclear weapons, please feel free. I Commanded an M110A2 (8") nuclear capable artillery battery in Germany in the 1980's. I was also a qualified "Nuclear Fire Planner". If you want to discuss... feel free.

Sure you did. Sure. At any rate how would commanding a few pieces of artillery a third of a century ago be relevant?

Nuclear weapons are nuclear weapons. Physics is physics. The effects of nukes don't change over time.

And "sure"? Yes child. I am a West Point graduate ("Courage and Drive! '75!) I Commanded B Battery, 2d Battalion, 5th Field Artillery Regiment, V Corps Artillery in Babenhausen, Germany, 1979-1981.

You say something like that utterly discredits your entire claim to "expertise".

What's with you? You think the Physics of nuclear weapons changes over time? What craziness are you proposing?

Yeah right! Yugoslavia lived in peace with Belgrade as its capital for over 70 years, so tell us another one?

Nice that you read a book - What does you reading a book have to do with your lack of understanding of Serbia ? and former Yugoslavia.

What a joke -- no idea about EMP - yet yapping as if you do .. and now calling Injeun an idiot for stating the well established fact that US and Russia can wipe each other out with nukes.

Did you think they reduced stockpiles by near 80% cause they didn't have enough ?

What essential US interests are involved with relationship of Belgrade with its country? Why do we care? How does it effect Minneapolis, Norfolk, Houston or any other American city? What is the essential US interest involved? (ANS: NONE AT ALL)

Belgrade was the capital but Tito still kept the Serbs at bay.

EMP is very scary. VERY difficult to stop... but, on the other hand, a great OFFENSIVE weapon. EMP will change the face of warfare in the net major conflict.

That is one of my major worries and why I'm urging Senator Tom Cotton to run for president in 2024.

Neither Donald Trump nor whomever the Democrats run for president (Biden, Harris or someone else) will work to prepare the U.S. the the upcoming war (probably with China).

An EMP attack on the U.S. is almost certainly going to happen. It offers many of the disruptive effects of a nuclear strike but without a nuclear explosion actually reaching U.S. soil it would be hard for the U.S. to justify a nuclear response.

Yet if an EMP attack occurs...

I will almost certainly die shortly thereafter. The destruction of medical infrastructure will ensure that. I can only live at most a few weeks without dialysis.

    Even worse.

My wife will die soon thereafter. She can't live without Synthroid and it will certainly not be still available.

Finally, my sister Donna will die soon thereafter. She is an insulin dependent diabetic and insulin is something that won't be manufactured in the near term after a successful EMP attack.

Thus I, and two of the most important people in my life, not to even mention at minimum hundreds of thousands of other Americans will die if an EMP attack is made against an unprepared United States.

What has been busted today, might not be busted tomorrow, and what is not busted today, might be busted tomorrow. I would think before making such a dire statement.

Then if a nation is inconsequential to us, it's okay to bomb and kill them for temporary political expedience regardless of what the long term results might be? I don't think the Nazis or Soviets could have said it better.

Wow... I said a nation that is unimportant to us should be pretty much ignored. I never said anything about bombing or hurting anyone at all.... gees... get yourself checked out. And in my high tech working life spanning decades (My 50th West Point Reunion is being planned) I never ran into any component for anything coming from the old Yugoslavia (although they do make good small arms for private consumption).

You're forgetting Serbia was our ally in WWII and suffered dearly for it, while Bosnia and Croatia joined the Nazis and were quite good at exterminating others.

I recall years ago reading that China feared our 7th fleet, and that the day might come when the US will try to stop China's commerce. Their freighters sail through the South China Seas, so maintaining control of the waterway is a matter of survival for them.
To relieve their fears, and lose their dependency on shipping, was one of the reasons China started their Road and Belt Initiative.

Anyway Xi has no intention of starting a war with us. If he did, we would be seeing Chinese ships roaming along our coastlines threatening us and not the other way around. One thing Xi did say though that's worrisome, is that if Putin had acted more aggressively Nato wouldn't be on its borders today.

A Trident II SLBM hits Mach 19, and has been doing so since 1979. Nothing you have has been capable of stopping it for 42 years and counting. Nice to see Soviet engineering is still on the curve! :roflol:

China appears poised to attack Taiwan. I don't see how the lack of Chinese warships on our coast has anything to do with it. The invasion of Taiwan is pretty much a local affair to them. Since our surrender in Afghanistan, China sees no reason not to proceed. This is a great opportunity for them that they would remiss for if they didn't exploit it.

Who's the bearded weirdball with the ball cap?

I'm betting on CHAMP being our best defense against incoming nukes. Its not a kinetic energy weapon at all. Its EMP.
