Two major airline CEOs question the need for masks on planes

New York (CNN Business)The CEOs of two of the nation's major airlines say they don't think wearing masks on planes does much to help limit exposure to Covid.

The comments from American Airlines (AAL) CEO Doug Parker — the nation's largest carrier — and Southwest (LUV) CEO Gary Kelly came during a hearing about the financial support that airlines received from the federal government in 2020 and 2021. But the topic of masks arose via a question from Sen. Roger Wicker, the ranking Republican on the Senate committee holding the hearing.

"I think the case is very strong that masks don't add much, if anything, in the air cabin environment. It is very safe and very high quality compared to any other indoor setting," said Kelly.

Both Kelly and Parker, who each have announced plans to retire as CEOs in the coming months, mentioned that high-grade HEPA air filters on planes capture virtually all airborne contamination and air quality is helped by how frequently cabin air is exchanged with fresh air from outside the cabin.

We've all known for a while now that masks add very little. Sweden proved it when they pulled masks from all school children to see teachers have no greater rate of infection for nearly two years now. These draconian measures of masks, mandates, etc. by the Authoritarians in our ranks need to be confronted and stopped. Businesses are losing customers. Children are suffering with their education and emotional development.

 

The funniest one to me are the morons wearing masks in cars or outdoors. Cars have cabin filters and recyclable air. Just hit the button. But, the funny part is they are already isolated and any air that does come in is protected by massive distance and UV rays. No one is contracting CV-19 in their car alone. Outdoors, UV rays kill it. There is no transmission... hello College Football. Thanks for proving it up to everyone.

 

They’re just following the recommendations of the trump admin. I guess that’s just another thing that he failed us on.

Yesterday while about 50 feet from anyone in the terminal, I had my mask pulled down while talking on the phone. Airport cop reminded me to put mask back on. he had to walk a ways to reach me to tell me

Stopping the CV-19 virus with a mask is like trying to stop mosquitos with a chain link fence. The virus also can be contracted from the eyes. The school children in Sweden have proven for two years without masks that it doesn't matter, but these anti-Science Authoritarians will not let go of their power and control over others. For instance, the freak out over Omicron (which I may be recovering from right now... Or I just have a ridiculous Cold... not sure).... is ridiculous. No one is dying of this variant. It's a blessing if it takes over from Delta, but we have Newsom and all the little Eichmans in the Democratic Party of California pushing for new mask mandates, lock downs, etc. They love to impose their will on others, even if it doesn't follow Science.

It's nice to see some CEO's got themselves educated and are pushing for Science and common sense for their industry. It's time to move to endemic, the pandemic phase should be over.

 

How can anyone trust masks when the people who demand that we wear them don’t wear masks at parties, galas, sporting events, fund raisers, protests, award ceremonies, and planes. So far we’ve been told to wear masks by Fauci, Pelosi, Waters, the Squad, Biden, Psaki, both Cuomos, Newsom, and many others all while they actually did what they call attempted murder if we did it.

Having recently flown I can say I was told by American and United Airlines that not wearing a mask will get be banned for ever from flying with them.

If the FFA catches airline crews not enforcing the masking rules, they’ll impose huge fines on the company.

I feel sorry for the flight crews. They didn’t sign up to be the masking police, nor do they want to be the masking police.

And for the passengers? It sucks. It just absolutely sucks.

Actually, what if all of the airlines banded together and told the FAA to shove it? “We’re not doing this anymore.”

So you are saying that if you are infected that masked serve ZERO purpose? Just want to get you on record for that. Wearing masks was NEVER about protecting the person wearing the mask, wearing the mask was about protecting OTHERS in case you were infected. THAT was the purpose in wearing the mask so you don't spread it to others.

 

I believe Fauci said something about vaccinated people could gather in small groups and should continue to wear masks in public and private. The only exception, at that time, was we could remove them inside if we were around the people that live in that household.

I have driven with my mask on in the car. I don't believe I can catch something in my own vehicle alone though. There's only 4 minutes between my place and my grocery store so I forget. Plus, we are required to wear them in public businesses and by our property manager. It's just simply easier to leave it on for those few minutes.

 

I don't care about people wearing their masks in their cares, in the majority of times its because someone forgot about it. I know I have at times. What about all the times that people that were infected DIDN'T wear masks and they infected others? You focus on celebrities not wearing masks in cases where it is really looked at. What about the people NOT wearing masks in the situations where it ISN'T looked at and there are infections? Why are you looking at celebrity situations that are REALLY looked at by people BEHIND THE SCENES to the public?

 

And I, among countless others proved that you do not know how to read the studies you linked showing you that you are incorrect.
