Trump almost ordered National Guard to SEIZE voting machines!!!

After reading the EO, I am not convinced it would have been illegal or that it is evil. This part of the EO summarizes it.

"Accordingly, I hereby order: (1) Effective immediately, the Secretary of Defense shall seize, collect, retain and analyze all machines, equipment, electronically stored information, and material records required for retention under United States Code Title 42, Sections 1T74-1T74(e), including but not limited to those identified in footnote 1. The Secretary of Defense has discretion to determine the interdiction of national critical infrastructure supporting federal elections. Designated locations will be identified in the operation order. (2) Within 7 days of commencement of operations, the initial assessment must be provided to the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. The final assessment must be provided to the Office of the Director of National Intelligence no later than 60 days from commencement of operations. (3) The Director of National Intelligence shall deliver this assessment and appropriate supporting information to the President, the Secretary of State, the Secretary of the Treasury, the Secretary of Defense, the Attorney General, and the Secretary"

 

So if you think Trump drafted this order, you forgot what else was in the document according to your link.

I immediately deployed the National Guard and federal law enforcement to secure the building and expel the intruders. America is, and must always be, a nation of law and order.”

“The Demonstrators who infiltrated the Capitol have defiled the seat of American Democracy, “I am directing the Department of Justice to ensure all lawbreakers are prosecuted to the fullest extent” of the law.”

The document follows with a direct communication to the rioters: “We must send a message - not with mercy but with justice. To those who engaged in acts of violence and destruction, I want to be very clear: you do not represent me. You do not represent our movement. You do not represent our country. And if you broke the law, you belong in jail.”

So this is the letter Trump drafted in your opinion?

 

Yes and I ALMOST robbed a convenience store and I ALMOST became a rock star. What we ALMOST do is irrelevant. All that matters is what we do. People are not prosecuted for what they ALMOST did.

The fact that this needs to be explained is an indictment of our civilization. I can't remember a time in our history where we discussed what people ALMOST did as if it meant a damn thing.

What is important is what Trump thought.

It would not be unreasonable, given what we know about Trump, that he liked the idea.

This whole thing is kind of silly.

I have held several staff positions in the Air Force. Frequently, draft documents are written and then circulated for comments. Most generally, they are changed and sometimes dropped completely. Keep that in mind.

It is likely that Trump did not draft the EO. It was likely written by a staff member. It may or may not have been done at Trump's direction. And it never made it past the draft stage for whatever reason. I suspect that most draft EOs are never actually signed and published.

After looking at the EO, I see nothing wrong with the intent. He questioned the election and initiated an investigation of the voting machines. The EO was written to do just that. It was done in such a manner that Trump was not part of the process.

As the Maricopa audit clearly shows.... Powell was right all along.... the Dominion system was corrupted... it is pretty obvious when the county removed the 2020 data base from the system ( but left older elections) and handed what was left over to the audit team in an attempt to obstruct justice and hide evidence, that the machines should have been secured.... such blatant attempts were done by one county, I wonder what the total outcome would have been if all counties were audited...

That's a predictable defense. Kinda like someone walked in to a bank with a hand grenade and threatened to pull the pin, ALMOST blowing the place up, but never did. The fact that a document like that was kept and turned over to the National Archives, that it presumably circulated inside the West Wing, is astonishing.
What would you think about any other country if you heard the leader there had people around him/her who had the idea of seizing voting machines?

They were not going to be seized by Trump. There is nothing in the EO where Trump even sees them.

 

It is not a matter of believing or not believing Trump. We have started to not believe democrats.

Undermining confidence in Democracy to 20% of the nation is not illegal, either.

However, it is an injurious blow to America by orders of magnitude hitherto unexperienced by any President in history.

When accomplished on that scale, I would call it betrayal of America. Others might call it de facto treason.
