Which is why the simple reform of setting a standard that demands SCJ's recuse themselves instead of leaving it up to their discretion is called for. Thomas by far being the worst abuser of that privilege.
On a similar vein, it's shocking seeing the unhinged, delusional nature of the e-mail exchange between Ginni and the Chief of Staff to the POTUS. Not just from the perspective of their delusion, but that due to her status as the wife of a SCJ she has access to the CoS. And has used that access to encourage Trump's pursuit of the Big Lie while hubby rules on cases related to 1/6.

Not really. Technically, Gini Thomas should have never texted Mark Meadows to begin with about Jan. 6th or the fact that she wanted, personally and politically, to overthrow, the election results on that day. It also shows that whatever Mark Meadows wrote in his book was that it may be a fabrication in how he explains the who, what, where, why, and how of his involvement with January 6th.

I'm not talking about removing him. I'm talking about appointing independent justices to offset the current partisan extremist right-wing supermajority.

I think more importantly there has to be some form of check and balance on any position of power

I think more concerning has been the outstanding questions about Kavanaugh (over four hundred complaints not investigated from the “tip line” plus the unanswered questions about odd financial deals) and the role of the Federalist society

    Why not?

We steal people's land while trying to commit genocide against them, kidnap others and treat them like animals and still treat them like second class citizens and mostly subhuman, start wars to steal from other countries, close our factories and businesses to save a buck to give to mega-rich people for cheap-o crap that takes months to cross the globe and think we are the gold standard for human rights and law enforcement for the whole planet!!! ;-)

Stealing is the American way!!! (Is it any wonder some worship the biggest pathologically criminal thief on the planet? ;-).

Is it any more or less corrupt than what Mitch did?

Yes, we know darn well the republican senate is corrupt and will let it slide because they don't want to lose another seat on the SCOTUS, they are putting party above country. It's a damn shame.

Unpacking, at 6/3 it's packed. And if you don't like the term, find another one, whatever you call it, a 6/3 court is wrong.

Want is needed is to balance the court, it's out of whack with the electorate.

What's actually needed are nonpartisan justices all together...... What's most certainly not needed are activist judges who try to legislate from the bench

I agree with the non partisan part however the term “activist” is thrown around far too freely.

You could also just as easily file it under partisan.

What we need are Judges who simply read the Constitution not interpret it..... To the extent that most parts of it are pretty clear in their meaning.

Th real reason Democrats want to impeach Justice Thomas: he's a conservative black man.

it is the case involving evidence of her funding for the capital insurrection. the court voted 8=1 with only thomas voting to suppress evidence against his wife.

Simple. Mitch McConnell retires, the vote to approve justices returns to 60 and all is well. Got to get rid of Mitch first, he has unilaterally destroyed the effectiveness of the US Senate.

You left something out. Let me help you with that. He's a conservative black man who on numerous occasions has refused to recuse himself from cases with which he has a clear conflict of interest. Next time read the thread and spare us the uninformed remarks.

Impeachment requires treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors. What you think he's guilty of, without evidence of course, is maladministration. Not an impeachable offense. And, as you should know, he alone decides recusal.

So, I'll repeat for you, Thomas' real crime is being a black conservative man, which Democrats consider a crime punishable by death...check their record.

The standard for impeachment of a judge is the same as for all federal officers. Meaning it can be effectuated for an abuse of power. Like repeatedly ruling on cases with which a judge has a conflict of interest. Short of accepting a bribe probably the most corrupt act a judge can take. In Thomas' case, his inexplicable ruling on the document case involving Trump becomes crystal clear when considering his wife's lunacy regarding Trump's illegal efforts to retain the presidency. A case he should have recused himself from. Not for the first time. https://www.politico.com/story/2011/06/no-justice-push-for-thomas-recusal-058046
We're talking about the highest court in the land here. Therefore, the standard for behavior should be beyond reproach. If he will not voluntarily adhere to a high standard he should be removed.
