I think that most of us already accept the fact that mass murders are a very real problem in America as well as other places around the world.

As I mentioned earlier, I think that it is a mistake to think that human behavior can be changed by manipulating inanimate objects.

There is no cheap and easy solution to mass murders regardless of the weapon used. The only hope we have in reducing the frequency and severity of mass killings is to make mental health services more accessible and affordable and doing so is neither cheap nor easy.

Russia is just one of over 50 countries that have far stricter gun control laws and higher homicide rates than the US so if guns were removed, a determined killer like the one in Buffalo would simply resort to using deadlier, crude WMDs such as Bio - Chem weapons, home made bombs, Molotov Cocktails, Anthrax etc.

I think that it is noteworthy that the deadliest mass killing by a single individual was not done with any firearm. The determined mass killer in this case only needed one dollar's worth of gasoline to kill 87 people when only one person was his target (1).

I'm sure that you can think of several mass killings in which something other than a gun was used so that's why I think that detecting and treating mass killers would be more effective in reducing our unacceptable homicide rate than attempting to ban or further restrict access to just one type of weapon, i.e. firearms.

I can think of at least 3 instances in civilian life where being armed saved me from individuals whose intent was not to make me any healthier, wealthier, or happier.

Over the decades, I've taught others how to shoot safely and I have never, ever regarded firearms as "toys".

 

Licensing.

First, I would repeal the 2ndAmendment. Gun ownership is a privilege and should only be granted to those willing and able to demonstrate a credible commitment to the responsibility such ownership entails. Guns are instruments unique in the danger they pose to society and should be treated as such. They are not toys.

My proposal is that we license the possession and bearing of most concealable handguns far more stringently than we do today, requiring ongoing practice and qualification to continue the privilege, much as we do with police.
Most concealed gun carriers want to be "good guys with guns" Fine, let them bear the license that indicates their skill and the ongoing practice necessary to be so proudly.
At the same time I would place most modern long guns under the same sort of restrictions we use for fully automatic weapons.

 

She can shelter in place, or find the nearest cover and be ready to smoke the shooter if he comes around the corner and steps into her kill box.

If everyone did that, the shooter would be dealing with dozens of ambushes.

I'm all for training and if it's made mandatory, it should be government funded and easily accessible.

But, YOU wouldn't repeal the 2nd Amendment. That can only be done via an Article 5 convention.

Last year I assigned the .38 to permanent bedside duty, in favor of this Taurus G3C with more than twice the firepower. I researched the purchase for several months before pulling the trigger (pun intended).

Not a single malfunction & a pleasure to shoot. If you’re looking for a CCW option, you could do a heckuva lot worse for $279, & I’m skeptical you could do any better.

 

I don't have a problem with blacks possessing firearms. Blacks are the most unarmed demographic in the country and are the most murdered demographic.

 

Fine, please note that attempts to create databases to help identify possible threats and wait times are constantly thwarted. I don't see that much agreement there is when it comes to making this a mental health issue. And until that gets going,these ugly incidents will occur again. Black people make up a mere 13.4% of the population. Those shootings are a matter for local law enforcement. Maybe that should be considered more of a problem, but it is still whataboutism on your part. Gangbanger drive-bys don't qualify as terrorist acts.
