Have you ever been shot at? From experience, your first reaction IS NOT to pull out a gun and start shooting randomly. Generally speaking, your first reaction is to get cover and identify the threat. Shooting back usually comes after that unless, of course, you have already identified the threat.

 

Who was it, the Philly Mayor, that said yesterday that only cops should be allowed to have guns? If everyone else is prohibited from owning guns then why would the cops need guns? If that's someone's thinking then they may as well just legislate away all guns, cops included.

In a situation like yesterday, it would have went much worse if there had been a few guys in the crowd that pulled out their sidearms.

I would have ran away, then petitioned my government to do their job and make it so we weren't the only developed country on the planet where this happens on a regular basis.

 

It wouldn't have if they spotted the shooter and brought suppressive fire to bear on his position forcing him to hunker down, or retreat. Pinning him might have helped the cops catch him sooner.

There's no way to tell, though. That's why I support tactical training for civilians.

Maybe. There is so much that goes into those judgements and the judgements themselves are so varied between individuals that there isn't a definitive answer. In the military that was a big part of why we trained in teams as well as individually. In the public sphere you need to be aware of and "tuned in" to EVERYTHING that is going on around you. In most cases of public violence the best option is to seek to evacuate as many people as you can until the threat can definitely be identified. That being said, if the guy behind the trash can has identified the threat and is in a position to engage then he shouldn't be worrying about what someone else may be thinking or doing with regard to his actions.

 

Being Q may have played a factor in his actions, not that being part of the Q movement requires police to initiate a wellness visit.
