I think 9 years for weed is ridiculous unless she had huge amounts they think was to sell. Will the arms dealer be free or just put in a Russian prison?
I read it a lot and have for years. Who said just entering the Capitol should be a life sentence and that riots should carry no penalty?
OK, so it's more of a "I don't think that's fair" complaint. Got it. Thanks for the response. Would you make that deal if the Russians pinky promise to keep him in a Russian prison?
Russia has a zero tolerance for illegal drug possession (even for medical reasons). Her agent should have informed her. The amount doesn't matter. https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/brittney-griner-marijuana-legal-many-parts-us-russia-why-wnba- Ignorance of Russia's drug laws is not a defense.
Can anyone here name all the Americans being held in foreign prisons? No one gave a crap about them until ONE person got arrested, why? As for Griner, my opinion is she's an American and she should be treated by our State Dept as such and get no special treatment based upon her gender, race or celeb status, but then those are the three things that answer my above question. Yes, we should try to get her home just like every other American imprisoned overseas for crimes we think are minor. But our morals don't fly very high in some foreign countries, especially countries where our president calls their president a thug and a killer. Without giving Griner special treatment, we should arrange a trade of similar criminals, not murderers or arms dealers; but then again, we should be doing that for every American in Griner's spot. Now if we got Griner out, does anyone here think when she lands in the USA she'll kiss the ground and state what a great country we are? Will she come out and say that with whatever faults she thinks this country has it's still better than any other place in the world? I would imagine Russian prisons don't hold very many soft spots for black, gay American celebs who went to their country to take their money and flouted their laws in the process.
She picked a bad time to get stupid. I'm fine with a trade, but not for a high level criminal. Roughly equal for roughly equal. On the plus side, by the time she gets out she can get a job teaching Russian to her pals who want to leave the USA because it is so awful.
I'm waiting for Left Wing traitors to tell us (and the world) that we got the better end of trading Brittney Griner for Viktor Bout. You have to be a special breed of imbecile to think Biden scored a victory there.
I’m waiting for blm and antifa to go protest in Russia, maybe loot a few stores and burn some to the ground.
I'm torn on this. The sentence is way longer than you'd get in any western country but we are talking Russia here and in a time of war. If we knew on the preponderance of evidence that these were trumped up charges then I think the State Department should do everything in their power to get her back. If, on the other hand she knew she was breaking the law then, regardless of how I feel for her family, I'm not sure we should be giving up a high-value prisoner in exchange for her release. I think in this case, she probably did attempt to import marijuana (which I think should be legal BTW) into Russia. I did a lot of work in international corporate entertainment when I was younger. I visited countries I was very apprehensive about and, even though I was sure I wasn't doing anything wrong or illegal, I still kept an eye over my shoulder at all times. I wouldn't do that now regardless of the money because the legal systems are often ad hoc and unreliable. We're not exactly perfect but I'd take my chances here any day. I hope everything works out for her but being an American or any kind of westerner is not a get-out-of-jail free card if you break another country's law.
Some of them are self-admitted members of a revolutionary cabal. The very definition of a flight risk.
I think the evidence was planted by the Russians and she pled guilty as a plea deal. No way you are that careless with drugs if you know you're going through Customs in a hostile dictatorship. They knew she used Marijuana legally here and saw an opportunity to embarrass the USA and get some prisoners swapped. It's also very possible that they badly want this Arms Dealer so he doesn't tell us anything he shouldn't. I hope that is the case and she is exchanged soon.
