Let’s say I were to concede that the black population of the United States has a violence problem. What reason would there be for the DOJ to attempt to distract from this by making statements about the threat, real or perceived, that white supremacy poses? Of what relevance are their voting tendencies?

Especially since the FBI made that declaration about white supremacy when there was a Republican administration, and it was made by an FBI director who was appointed by a Republican.

Sure, that's actually a great question.

IMO, Politics has become one of the major factors in the majority of people's lives. They decide who they hang out with, who they like, who they hate, etc... often based on politics and a few other factors (not saying politics is main factor, just that it has become a factor). I personally know democrats/republicans that would basically refuse to hang out with anyone of a different political group. So, again IMO, you have DOJ workers who have this mindset now and can't separate politics from their job. Democrats are scared to piss off black leaders and lose the black vote, so they won't acknowledge the problem and even go further by creating a "white supremacy" problem that really doesn't exist to appease said black leaders.

I would say it’s less about politics and more about values and morals. I don’t hang out with people who don’t share at least some of my values and I actively avoid those who’s values are antithetical to my own. If it was all about political affiliation I wouldn’t have many friends. I don’t like Libs, but most of my friends fall in that category. Shared values bridge the gap.

The average voter doesn’t know what the DOJ does and care even less about what it says. If your assessment were true do you think black people would be disproportionately represented in our prison system?

IMO, for many, morals have crossed into political affiliation. Voters don't pick a candidate based on their morals, they base their morals off what their political party tells them is right/wrong.

I think its a statistical fact that black people are disproportionately represented in our prison system.

That’s pretty bleak. Is that based on you personal experience?

Yeah. It’s a fact. Was my meaning unclear?

To clarify: If the Democrats’ goal was to not disenfranchise such a reliable voter base, and had the means to influence how they are treated by law enforcement, wouldn’t it be counter intuitive that that voter base is so disproportionately imprisoned and stripped of their voting rights?

What sources would those be? The cited article doesn’t give the race of the assailant and that close ip picture looks pretty inconclusive to me.

I think thats exactly whats trying to be done currently. Hence all the catch and release and them turning a blind eye in major cities to much of the crime taking place. Hence why we see video after video of African americans openly looting from stores while staff films. Defund police, etc...

We might agree on something here. FBI may have 'weaponized" our citizens with their careless rhetoric.

Do you believe that laws are not being enforced on black people, but are being enforced against non-black people, or do you believe the laws are just being ignored all together? Neither?

Not an opinion, a fact. Your personal spin of the OP gas lighted this tragic incident.

Your point seems to be that people should not be worrying about white supremacists, but rather black people? It seems like apples and oranges. White supremacy is more about a political movement that threatens groups of people's rights, not direct violence per se. We already agree that vicious criminals like the one in the video need to be put behind bars. If you think there is a systemic cultural problem underlying that, you should probably support your case with statistics, not an anecdote, and provide a solution that shows your point is something more sophisticated than "black people bad."

I actually think most hate crime laws are stupid to be quite honest no matter who is the perp.
