Hey! You weren’t the only ones! I am betting the First Nation people of Australia had it far worse. At least you were legally human whereas the indigenous Australians lived under “Terra Nullius” until the referendum

About history, specifically the history of the British Empire. By all means disagree with their interpretation of history, the monarchy's relationship to those events or the relevance of the current monarch to it all, but don't misrepresent the point just because the words 'black' or 'brown' pop up.

These people are grandstanding, but no more than people on PF do every day (including some on this thread).

The traditional cheer is ,”God save the Queen, long live the King.”

When Elizabeth’s father died, it was the other way.

@Montegriffo can confirm, but I believe that’s the chant throughout the twelve day mourning period.

And I have been warned that this is not a proper thread and might be deleted because I did not post a link to a news article.

aww....I'd hoped she would make it to 100, but at that age more years aren't really a great gift

    RIP

I can't help but wonder if the next one. (not Charlie 3, he's waited too long but the one after him,) might just chuck the whole thing. OTOH it's a posh gig for sure and it MAKES money, so it seems a win/win all round,

This Royal Family had nothing to do with that history. Why should they take responsibility for a culture that ceased over 200 years ago?
The UK was the first country to abolish slavery in the 19th century. Perhaps you could by the same token thank the monarchy for being the example that eventually abolished it across the world.

    I said houses and grounds.
I didn't say they went to see the Queen.
Without the monarchy those buildings would not be there.

He's had plenty of time to keep that resume up to date, and you can bet the cover sheet is well embossed.

Considering he has run most of Cornwall for many years he has been well prepared.

So the royal families ex-slave colonies should be grateful to Britain that they stopped the practice [of chattel slavery] that only they themselves [Europeans] practiced ?

You can bet this is exactly what the royals believe to but you'll never hear them admit it.

There's armed guards all around the grounds. You can't go anywhere near it.

Then why advocate for reparations for only one nation - the UK had a vast colonial empire. If it pays reparations to the Caribbean then it bloody owes our First Nation people reparations for Terra Nullius

Carribbean is several nations where the royal family were the overseers of vast plantation networks that kept black ppl chained up in perpetual slavery.

You'll need to put your own case forward, my area of study is African history.

I always thought it was "the Queen is dead, long live the King".

My task for today is to make a flag pole so I can fly the Union flag at half mast.
