Let's put this myth to rest once and for all: The Republican Party is NOT the "pro-life" party.

I think it's safe to say pro-life and pro-choice are both flawed terms. The crux of the issue is when personhood begins, along with bodily autonomy of the mother.

That is the POINT of this thread. What is your response? If the Republican Party actually WERE the "pro-life" party, why does this not show in any Party policy other than abortion? Things like children who would die hungry if not for the social safety net, for example? And all the other examples on the OP.

It would be against forum rules if I were to frame this debate in terms of "intelligent people".

But sure... that's my point. "Pro-life" doesn't really mean that they defend life. It just means that they oppose abortion.

Democrats don't claim that "pro-choice" means that every choice should be acceptable. But "pro-life" does mean that every life should be protected, as described by Republicans. In fact, you put a great example. The government throwing away money that should be invested in REAL education is most definitely a bad choice that we should do away with. But that's a different topic.

...and Pro choice just means that they support abortions being legal.

This is specifically what these terms are intended to mean. Why are you making a thread about it?

Of course we do. Unless you're saying an 18 year old can engage in a mass shooting without a gun.

No. That would not be accurate. The CURRENT Republican leadership is NOT "pro-life". Not a single Republican in RNC leadership positions has come out to "defend life" when some states have put the life of mothers (and child-mothers) in jeopardy.

Every political party has its extremists. But the extremists in the Republican Party are the ones in control of the Party. And they are most definitely NOT pro-life.

None, she took a risk, knowing the possible consequences.

No. Democrats understand the "pro-choice" refers only to a mother's right over her own body. It doesn't mean you can "choose" to buy a gun and go out on a shooting spree... or anything like that. Republicans have yet to understand that "pro-life" only means anti-abortion. And not anything that actually has to do with human life.

Resent paying someone else's HC and also paying their own? Imagine my surprise!! You expect people to dance gleefully in the streets for paying twice as much for healthcare!!

Since when has LAWS curbed anything in the US? Realistically, laws do nothing when people don't abide by them.. So, as it stands today, laws only apply to law abiding folks, other than them, they mean nothing either way!

So you have a valid point really!

Republicans give more to help the less fortunate and are more likely to volunteer. Poverty and homelessness is higher in Dem controlled cities even though they control abundant resources.

Of course we do not! Pass a law that one has to be 18 to buy a gun and the probability that some 18-year old will sometime conduct a mass shooting with a gun is something like 99%.

after following politics for over 50 yrs, it has been my observation that republicans like "strongmen" authoritarian types, and believe more in the "law of the jungle" and dont want government involvement in anything, simple let the jungle run, they did not oppose abortion till late in the game (mid seventies) and while claiming to be christian actually seem to oppose jesus generosity, if jesus were to return, i suspect he would favor the priests working in the "crap-hole" areas of the world, that the US has labeled as "communists" before he visited a mega church

    Exactly.

Because it's NOT what most Republicans in this forum think. But you agree with me that Republicans believe that the right to life begins at birth and ends at conception

Exactly my point! Republicans believe that "right to life" is hyperbolic BS. They just oppose abortion. Period!
