    BREAKING: Russians retreat from Kherson

    OPERATION MOP-UP UPDATE:

'Senior Kremlin officials on Wednesday announced that Russian forces were withdrawing from Kherson, a key city in southern Ukraine — the latest in a series of embarrassing military setbacks.'

'Gen. Sergei Surovikin, the overall commander of Russian forces in Ukraine, said he proposed to take up defensive lines on the eastern bank of the river. …'

'This is a huge humiliation for Russia. Kherson was the linchpin of their ground communications to Crimea and one of the biggest objectives of the invasion.'

If the Russians are making short work of Ukraine, shouldn't they be advancing West rather than retreating East?

Ukraine is a bigger disaster for them than Vietnam was for us. They have lost over 70,000 dead and I haven't seen a number of disabled. What a stupid move.

And coincidentally, Kirill Stremousov, the Russian appointed government leader of Kherson is dead. A car wreck.

Supposedly a car wreck. Remember state media also falsely claimed dozens of Kremlin insiders were all mysteriously falling off 10 story buildings or having swimming accidents while trying to swim in icy rivers, fully clothed, with their hands zip tied behind their backs, after accidentally shooting themselves twice in the head.

I try not to, so if you feel there is a relevant fact (as opposed to some ad hominem, slander, opinion, or sweeping or baseless generalization) that I have ignored, please point it out to me.

In the meantime, the Ukrainian military has put the wreckage and disassembled parts of the Iranian UAVs in storage which they have been showing to journalists. Separately, they have mentioned (correctly) that the engine to these drones (or at least a good bit of it) usually survive in the drones being shot down. Let them show the pictures of wreckage of more than the estimate I gave (around 20) and show the engines for anything close to the 300+ Shahed 136 UAVs they claim to have shot down.

For now, after all the propaganda that anyone using common sense and truly investigating open source material would have known already, they have concluded the following regarding the engines they have actually analyzed:

The engine he is referring to is the MD550 manufactured by MADO (an Iranian company). This wasn't much of a secret, but I can refer you to a plethora of supposed experts and talking heads claiming (without any basis) that the MD550 is produced in China.

When you are misled by the propaganda underlying your assumptions, you also start chasing fantastically stupid theories. Like this one in the same article:

When you are withdrawing your troops from an urban area without a fight (i.e., no urban fighting*), it generally means you either feel you can't safely or effectively supply those troops, or you don't feel the keeping the place is worth the casualties, or both. Otherwise, even a mostly deserted urban setting is ideal for defenders and a nightmare for those trying to take it. Ask the Israelis, where a force of only 100-150 Hezbollah fighters was able to pin down 5,000 IDF forces without letting them capture Bint Jbeil. In fact, a scenario like the Battle of Bint Jbeil is exactly what Ukraine is afraid of and what the Russians are probably trying to replicate. The new overall commander of Russian forces is probably quite familiar with that battle from his service in Syria and contacts with IRGC and Hezbollah commanders.

I don't think the Russians are are as sophisticated as you give them credit for....
....what they are cautious of is that Russian soldiers will be disguised and wearing civilian clothes and will be walking into well prepared killing zones. The point being a potential media festival of Ukrainian forces killing their own civilians....something like that....first and foremost Russian doctrine is based on deception which includes information management.

    Ukraine Conflict Updates
Russian Offensive Campaign Assessment, November 10

Click here to read the full report.
    Key Takeaways

    • Ukrainian forces steadily advanced in Kherson Oblast on November 10 as Russian forces conduct a withdrawal to the east (left) bank of the Dnipro River.
    • The Russian withdrawal will take some time to complete, and fighting will continue throughout Kherson Oblast as Ukrainian troops advance and come up against pre-prepared Russian defensive lines, especially around Kherson City.
    • ISW does not assess the fighting in Ukraine will halt or enter a stalemate due to winter weather, despite faulty Western assumptions.
    • Ukraine holds the initiative and is in the process of securing a major victory in Kherson. A ceasefire would provide the Kremlin with the pause it desperately needs to reconstitute Russian forces.
    • Wagner Group financier Yevgeniy Prigozhin is increasingly wrestling with St. Petersburg officials over expanding Wagner Group recruitment in the city.
    • Ukrainian Air Force Command spokesperson Yuriy Ignat stated that Russian force will likely slow the pace of their campaign against Ukrainian infrastructure.
    • Ukrainian forces continued to conduct counteroffensive operations on the Svatove-Kreminna line.
    • Russian forces continued offensive operations near Bakhmut, Avdiivka, and in western Donetsk.
    • Russian forces began constructing second line fortifications in Crimea and southern Ukraine.
    • Russian citizens continue to oppose Russia’s war in Ukraine through protest, social media dissent, and desertions from the military.
    • Russian mobilization efforts are channeling personnel to the Wagner group.
    • Russian occupation officials are continuing efforts to erode Ukrainian national identity while mobilizing residents in Russian-occupied territories. . . . .
Ukrainian forces made substantial gains throughout Kherson Oblast on November 10. Ukrainian Commander-in-Chief Valery Zaluzhny stated that in the past day, Ukrainian forces have advanced 7km and liberated six settlements in the Petropavlivka-Novoraysk direction (towards Beryslav) and advanced 7km and liberated six settlements in the Pervomaiske–Kherson City direction (towards Kherson City).[30] Ukraine’s Southern Operational Command noted that Ukrainian forces have advanced the frontline by 7km and liberated 12 settlements, amounting to over 260 square kilometers of territory in the past day.[31] Zaluzhny stated that since October 1, Ukrainian forces have taken back 41 settlements in the Kherson direction.[32] Ukrainian military sources also reported that Russian troops continue efforts to partially withdraw troops from the west (right) bank of the Dnipro River but emphasized that Russian forces are conducting continued maneuvers on the west bank, statements in line with ISW’s assessment that Russian forces will conduct a fighting withdrawal.[33] . . . .

Why is Russia retreating out of Kherson if they are mopping up? Why have they sat their unable to do anything but retreat for half a year? Gee, it is almost like blowing up the illegal Kerch Bridge broke their only rail supply line leaving them without fuel or ammo.

Xi isn't interested in sending help. Not the sort Putin needs anyways.

He will help with the rebuild of Russia's military, but at a steep price. he is also busy getting close to Russia's supposed allies in Central Asia, who are not best pleased wiht Putin right now.

He will also make sure his people analyze every possible lesson. China's military is in WAY better shape than Russia's but there will still have been a few rude shocks.

Ukraine could just surround the city then surround districts of defenders as it will be a long cold winter.
