China is becoming more and more powerful on the world stage. They have developed big infastructure projects in Africa and other countries. They are in talks with Russia and Saudi Arabia to help one another.
They have a capable military and a nuclear weapons arsenal.
They appear to be economically stable.
I believe they are already one of the world powers and could become the #1 world power within the next 5-10 years.

China has had a really bad year and next year isn't looking better.

A year ago, it looked like China was going to try and take back Taiwan in 2022.

Now it doesn't look like they have a chance to do it anytime soon.

I wouldn't underestimate China. And I hope the USA doesn't get involved in any China/Taiwan conflict. We have enough problems already.

We would definitely use our military to stop China from taking Taiwan, that's why they aren't going to try it anytime soon.

It would be a mistake to overestimate China.

Every single piece of tech on this planet uses the same chip inside from a Taiwanese tech company. If China was able to take over Taiwan, it would have the enormous power to hold the tech industry hostage the world over.

Those are US tech companies and we should pull them out of Taiwan. A US admiral predicted China could be ready to attack Taiwan by 2027.

That's the plan. If China moves into Taiwan I think the plan is to pull out all the tech experts and manufacturing and torch what can't be pulled out.

Which is why China is tlikely not to go in by force.

China has a lot of problems of it's own but pretty clearly, if you start at say, 1992, and measure where the US was and where China was, and compare that to now, in 2022, the trend lines are pretty clear.

The US tech companies went their on their own. Are you suggesting our gov't dictate where US corporation's can do business?

But, I believe, one of the bills Biden signed into law recently, is to build more chip fab production facilities in USA.

I don't know. Is there a problem if they reach this man-made definition of 'super-power'?

    China’s growth

To a certain extent this is not surprising: China’s population of 1.4 billion is around four times higher than that of the US at 320 million.

Despite the recent slowdown, China’s economy is still growing at almost three times the rate of the US – around 7% over the last couple of years, compared to less than 2.5%.

The two nations are on an even keel when it comes to exports. However, the US has a trade deficit – it imports more than it exports – while China imports significantly less than it exports, resulting in a trade surplus.

    Closing the gap

But there is still a lot of catching up to do: China lags in terms of foreign direct investment flowing into the country. Its high-tech exports amount to nearly four times less than those of the US.

Closing this gap may just be a matter of time though, not least because China is committed to education, with around 4% of total GDP now being invested in training its people. China’s education system is the largest in the world. It has more university students than the EU and the US combined, and there is growing demand for higher education among its young people.

    ...

The USA should invest more in higher education.
Education is a key factor in how powerful a country can be.

We should not be attacking teachers and the education system in the USA. But strengthening it.

IMO, if the America 1st crowd gets back in power, China will over take us faster.
We can not sit out the world trade deals.
We can not scale back our education goals.
We can not scale back on research and development.

We need to be leaders on the world stage, as we have been since end of WW2.
Get back to promoting democracy and human rights around the world. Not invading other sovereign countries, but working with them.

With Biden and the woke Democrats in control, China could pass us if it didn’t grow at all.

Between 2005 and 2020, the GDP of China grew from 2.3 trillion to 14.9 trillion U.S. dollars. During the same time period the GDP of the United States grew from 13 trillion to 20.8 trillion dollars. It is estimated that, by 2030, China will overtake the U.S. as the world's largest economy, with a GDP of 33.7 trillion dollars, compared to 30.5 trillion dollars; this margin of more than three trillion is predicted to increase to almost 13 trillion over the subsequent five year period.

GDP wise, it looks like China's biggest gains were between 2010 and 2020.
So, it matters not which person is president.
We as a country are not doing enough to remain the superpower.

It matters who is president. While Biden stifles the U.S. economy with woke energy policies, China builds coal fired plants. China has cheap energy while we get expensive solar and wind.

Biden and the Democrats put more people on welfare and destroys the middle class. Biden and the woke Democrats support criminals. Biden supports open borders for illegal aliens who become dead weight to the economy if Biden continues the policy of giving their free housing, medical care and public money for income. Biden and the Democrats are more interested in solidifying their hold on power than increasing the growth of the U.S. economy.

We'll have to agree to disagree. Biden's investments will make us better for it in the long term. I'm sorry if there isn't instant gratification to measure in the short term.

Democrats only “invest” in welfare recipients, which for them is actually true. Their “investments” buy votes for them, and harder times for those who work and pay taxes.

Investment in the poor takes time to bear fruit. It takes half a lifetime to get a good degree, for example. Republicans would have them instead work at a part-time cashier job because it's work.

A pesky little thing called the supreme Court and the Constitution.

But you could always start a GoFundMe and donate and volunteer to pay it off yourself.
Literally no one is trying to stop you from doing that
