Yes, " I can't imagine someone with these kind of ideas having children."" Again : being selfish is not a sin, or a moral failing, or wrong....it is how humans have survived. . YOUR misconceptions are not my responsibility to explain....I tried and you don't understand....I've gone as far as I'm willing to go to get you to understand English
Well, not trying to hijack the thread, but maybe mother Earth is trying to get even for burning up 150 million years of sequestered hydrocarbons in 150 years. Male sperm count is down 50% in the last 50 some years and dropping 1% per year possibly due to PFAS in plastics. Also this just in...China deaths exceeded births and population is dropping. It is estimated that by 2035 1/3 of the population in China will be over 60. Authorities are running scared. EU population is down for second year and US population slowing, it grew by 0.1%.
I do understand English, as I know you do. You are simply pretending like you don't because you said something stupid: "If you bring children into the world without asking them if they want to be brought into the world that is quite selfish," and you don't want to have to explain this crazy comment. So you want to give it another try and explain what you meant or are you going to pretend you don't understand English and do some crazy formatting?
So the only option besides raising a family is working in a cubicle how is it that I've escaped both of these fates?
Selfish people are not likely to want kids to take care of but not wanting doesn't necessarily mean they are selfish. There can be many reasons people don't want kids. Unfortunately it means you expect my kids to take care of you when you are old and in a nursing home and fight your wars. I think moderation is always a good thing. Zero or a ton of kids are both problematic.
There are exceptions to every rule. Not everyone can be a doctor and save lives. Still, making a corporation rich off your own back is hardly more important than being an integral and important part of a child's life.
Not entirely... The stigma should not be against women. The stigma should be against both men and women. Especially men because we have a problem within society of men not sticking around and raising their sons.
Adoption in my position is not very easy. My partner and I cared for his little brother through his adolescents
It kind of is. The things people say about raising children are still things I miss out on, due to things outside of my control.
My brother has a child and that's good enough for me. I'm in my early 40s and still don't have one..... It would be just my luck if I did have one the little bastard would turn out like me! The human race is not in danger of growing extinct for my lack of reproduction
We all have are parts to play in society and contributions to make. Even people capable of having children aren't necessarily equipped or have the mindset and ability to raise them. Those people are being un-selfish in choosing not to have children. Really I don't think we should judge others on how they want to live their lives. I just hate society putting pressure on children to be successful in life as the primary directive over relationships, family, and community. People have a lot to offer over just getting a degree and being financially successful.
I apologize, I deleted the post because I didn't want to make it come off as pressuring or a judgment for not having done that. It's a great thing you both did for his brother and you should be proud of that.
Agreed. I think it's a bigger issue that people have children that shouldn't Also agreed. I love my job but I'd dump it in a heart beat to keep my family close
But it's not a choice. You are not deciding to not have kids because of other priorities, so it doesn't really seem that your situation falls in the topic of this thread. There is an entire group of people who would like to have kids but for one reason or another are unable to. This is about whether a choice to have kids is selfish or not.
Maybe but then we developed brains and the ability to think... And everything that is "natural" is not always good.....and even if "natural " is good it does NOT mean we have to do it... It once was natural to die of a tooth infection....should we continue?
No I didn't take it that way. We've talked to some agencies but I have some misgivings about adoption or even surrogacy my partner and I can't offer a mother. Or a maternal parent Mostly I feel blessed. He got an incredible scholarship and is going to college at the moment. He still visits us. But he's making his way
that's little consolation. so you only slave away at a job for no reason if you don't have kids if you choose not to? The food is the same whether you choose not to or can't. I don't think that it is. Far more people that I should have chosen not to that did have kids. I think that's more selfish. Either way whatever the reason you don't have kids the reality is you don't have kids.
