Trump and his family failed to report nearly $300,000-worth of gifts from foreign governments, House

    Well that's odd.

Maybe the Trump family, in their roles as employees of the Trump administration, did not know that they could not keep gifts given to them.

I am going to guess that basic ethics training day was skipped by the former administration.

Now, they can keep the gift, if they pay fair market value for it, but it seems that many gifts were not even reported as required.

    https://www.cnn.com/2023/03/17/politics/trump-gifts-democrats-report/index.html

Rep. Jamie Raskin of Maryland, the top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, told CNN that the fact these items were never reported and some are now missing “suggests serious violations of the foreign Emoluments Clause.”

“That part of the Constitution is America’s original anti-bribery law,” Raskin said, noting lawmakers could make criminal referrals if there is evidence to warrant doing so.

“But in truth, Congress on a bipartisan basis needs to legislate to build meaningful enforcement mechanisms into the Emoluments Clause,” he added. “This will force us to recover the wisdom of the framers who were emphatic that people in public office, not be on the take from foreign governments.”

House Democrats have sought to point out Trump’s foreign engagements as their Republican colleagues and the Oversight Committee’s new GOP chairman, Rep. James Comer of Kentucky, are ramping up their own investigation into foreign dealings by President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter.

Last year, the State Department revealed it could not fully account for the foreign gifts Trump officials received during the president’s last year in office, but the interim report released Friday cites “new information obtained by the committee {that} reveals that the failures to disclose gifts from foreign governments were much broader than previously known and extended throughout the Trump Administration.”

“Internal White House records obtained by the Committee indicate that the listings provided by the White House to the Office of the Chief of Protocol failed to include all the foreign gifts received by former President Trump and the First Family not only in 2020, but throughout the Trump Administration,” the report notes.

But what about a private citizens artwork?
Isn’t that more important than a prior president and current front runner for a major political party being constantly involved in multiple financial schemes?

$300,000 worth of gifts from foreign governments? How many sold Hunter Biden paintings would that be equivalent to?

If it's ok for Biden to do it, it's ok for Trump to do it.

You would have to cut one in half.

And then it would be worth more as part of a matched set.

He was VP during Obama Biden's liaison with Ukraine, China, and the Balkans. He was later called into prominence because of his artwork that nobody had seen yet sold very well.

The walls are closing in! That compilation of the news is hilarious. That being said they did spread enough propaganda to hurt his image despite never succeeding in anything close to a prosecution.

Republicans were foaming at the mouth when the Clintons did something similar. They were livid, and rightly so.
The Clintons quickly returned or paid for the things they had taken.
But when trump does it, it’s no big deal. Double standard.

The $300,000 of gifts barely equals a Clinton Foundation speaking fee, or the royalties these politicians make on books. The idea they're enforcing the Emoluments Clause is laughable.

Er, they're in love with Biden as long as Biden bars Trump from the White House:roll:... Which is probably why dems are 'jumping off Biden's ship' concerning the 2024 presidential election.

So … theft and bribery are ok if someone else earns more by doing something else?

There needs to be a bribe for bribery to take place, and even Raskin admits that they just weren't able to uncover evidence of that(color me shocked). And with the theft thing, it comes right back down to the question of the millennium: Is the person occupying the Presidency still his own person, or is he effectively the Agent of the Presidency, and is no longer capable of exerting his own will or his own possessions? Alot of this comes down to the 1975 court decision, a decision wrought with so many errors that future Presidents begrudgingly accepted, and obviously Trump did not.

Propaganda was never necessary to hurt his image, he is a pro at it all on his own.
