Yes, having spent many years travelling from Melbourne where I lived most of my life to visit relatives in Gippsland and making a point of dropping off for the odd cellar door bargain on the way through the Peninsula I've found a few decent vinyards there. However climate change is starting to give them big problems.
The headache thing is usually from suphides used in both red and white wine and the only way to get around it is to buy certified organic wine which is hard to get and doesn't cellar all that well. The brother of the owner of a resturant I was chef at was the president of the European Champagne Academy and sent us free of charge sample of a dozen bottles of every great and obscure vintage you could think of. I developed very expensive tastes in that job but now that age has caught up with me there's only so much I can drunk before it hits me like a sledgehammer.

Hi, I'm embarrassed to say I've never actually tried an Australian Sparkling Wine, used to like the Semillon Sauvignon Blanc from Margaret River WA or New Zealand Marlborough until I started getting headaches. Switched from white to red and currently just drinking whatever good quality is on special, had a glass of Yellowtail shiraz last night. Btw I'm on the Mornington Peninsula and you probably know also a wine region :)
