But Obama didn't even bother to write a budget that would have met his campaign promise. Maybe it wouldn't have survived congress, but it would have been an attempt to keep his word.

Instead every budget he has proposed has been more than double the deficit that he decried as "unpatriotic" and promised to cut in half.

Which leaves the channels open for members of the Republican establishment to do what they do best.

President Obama has submitted a budget every Fiscal year he has been in office. It is not up to the POTUS to pass a budget, only propose one to Congress. If Congress can't get together and work as a team to pass the budget, then there is nothing the POTUS can do about. Consitutionally, passing a budget is the role of the Congress, not the POTUS. His job is to submit the budget he wants and then both houses of Congress look at it, change it and then come to a compromise. Try and place blame where it belongs...on the Republican controlled House and democrat controlled, but fillibustered Senate.

Which year's budget proposal would have actually met his campaign promise?

That's Federal, State and local spending. Are you claiming he is responsible for all of it?

Good Gawd man.......Obama's last budget DIDNT GARNER ONE VOTE in the Senate.........

.......his budget was so reckless....so irresponsible......so bloated.....so disgusting.....Obama couldnt even get one of his fellow hair brain liberal Senators to vote for the steaming pile of excrement he calls a budget.

You want compromise on his budget.......when his own party abandoned him?

c'mon...you can't possibly believe the GOP would ever allow a non-citizen to sneak into office. If the GOP can't find something to disprove his eligibility then it does not exist. You should at least be smart enough not to have to resort to name calling?

then they should have done their jobs and found a way to change it. They could have worked together, created a better budget between the two houses and approved that one. Sure, the President could have vetoed it, but then Congress could have overridden his veto. If they had worked together like they were elected to do, then they could have used this to hold it over his head.

NO ONE understood how deep the Bush Depression was, or how the Pubs would paralyze government, or how their propaganda machine would fear monger the country. They will get their reward in November.

I am a Democrat, and I would love a better budget. I would also love to do what is needed to help the country get out of this mess.
    1) No social Security tax holiday...it is rather detrimental and the pros do not outweigh the cons
2)look at and overhaul medicare and medicade. We should also have a means test to recieve benenfits.
    3) Social security needs to be changed and the age limit needs to be around 70 years old for full benefits.
    4) Eliminate oil subsidies and tax breaks for ALL companies. There is no reason why corporations should have a - or 0 tax rate.
    5) overhaul the current tax system. Eliminate loopholes in taxes.
    6) cut the DoD budget by at least 30-40%. Even with these cuts, we will still spend more on the military than any other country.
    7) increase capital gains taxes based on income. It will be based on your income through other means. i.e. if you have more income through a job, then you pay less on capital gains. If all of your income is through capital gains, you will pay aprox the same percent you would if it came from a job.
    8) increase the % on the Estate tax.
I am also open to other innovative ideas to bring the deficit down. No one knows everything and should be open to suggestions.

by the way...generalizations are never helpful. There are many Democrats who are willing to talk. The word "compromise" is not an evil word. Our Constitution was created based on compromise. I disagree with the Republican politician who said at CPAC that neither party has anything in common...they are supposed to have America's best interest in common.

A Constitutional Republic is purposely difficult.......because Tyranny is easy.....

Compromise, as it is used today............is the act of implementing one half of every bad idea. Compromise is why we face so many government created problems today.

According to page 246 (last page) of Obama's new FY 2013 budget...the debt will be over $17.5 billion after his four year term.
The national debt was $11.9 trillion after FY2009 (which was mostly GWB's budget).

So instead of reducing the national debt by at least 1/2 (which Obama promised).

By his own projections - he will have presided over it's increase by almost 50%.

    Absolutely PATHETIC.

Congress needs to stop playing political games, and reach proper consensuses overall. No President can fix the problems alone.

Certainly not with a party blocking you at every possible turn to advance politically. It takes compromise (kinda like Obama tried during his first term.....hopefully though, he's learned a valuable lesson).

He's going to "buy the deficit"...that's his answer to everything...spend more so we make more. Failed logic.

Sorry DA60 but you have it wrong, Obama promised to reduce the deficit by 50% not debt. Therefore his promise is to only have the following deficits by the end of his first term:
If assuming he is talking about the 2009 budget: $750 Billion
If assuming he is talking about the 2008 budget: $228 Billion

What is really pathetic is that people actually weren't angered by this promise. He essentially told people he has no intention of starting to pay down the debt. How sad it has become that we as a society do not demand fiscal sanity from our leaders.
