Millionaires and huge farm corporations have, well, MILLIONS in the bank, and we pay them 20 BILLION per year NOT to grow food, to make the price of milk higher, to grow corn, to ride hot new pickup trucks with $3000 worth of rims on them, and THIS is the "ripoff" you worry about.

Everyone who works has to pay their share in taxes - are they then given food stamps in return? No.........

Is that a confederate flag on your back and a bandana on your head? Get off your porch and put some shoes on. How can you throw around "white trash" and look like the dictionary entry of "white trash".

But yea, this woman is a moron.

There is nothing LIBERAL about this. Shes young, stupid, and immature. She receives $200 a month, and surely we could find someone collecting more tax dollars abusing the system.

She was entitled to some assistance, once she hit it rich; She is no longer entitled. That is clear, and any Liberal or Conservative should be in agreement about this.

Don't take the words of this woman and tie it to liberalism. I am a liberal and I personally would have loved to interview her and lay out her stupidy.

It's easy being charitable with other people's money isn't it? That's 200 dollars a month that could be going to someone who actually needs it.

Not to get off subject with your straw man but go ahead and cut farm subsidies. Watch food prices rise and see the poor really suffer. I'm particularly laughing at your "pickup truck" comment. How dare someone work hard and earn something better than what you have! The government should definitely step in and do something about that.

Because it makes her a thief? She's taking from a social program designed to help people who need it when she is "well over the limit" prescribed to the program.

Sure seems like a lot of people are infuriated at this mythical 1% of wealthy folks for taking from the lower and middle classes. Yet, they are perfectly okay with people stealing from them if you qualified for the program at some point. Double standards are awesome.

if they were in poverty when they applied, they qualified... once they get a job they may not qualify the next time they apply, that is the way it works - it's really not that complicated

Yea but come on she's got a lot of money now. I'm really just outraged as to why she couldn't have said something like "oops I didn't mean to use this card". That would of been worlds apart from "um yea im entitled." Instead she made herself and her generation look so friggen stupid, and open to be attacked.

It's $200, it's nothing, her attitude tho is what I have a prob with. Aloof, not caring, and not having a (*)(*)(*)(*) clue about what's going on in this country.

How you gonna sit there and say you deserve welfare when you just got $750,000. Stupid stupid stupid...

That's because she chose a lump sum payment so it wouldn't be considered income.

The need to change the laws. If your on public assistance, and win the lottery, you have to pay back every penny you received + interest and pay income tax on what's left.

she just paid a couple hundred thousand in taxes, so hard to say she is not helping those lesser in her community, yes finishing off her food stamp card was stupid, but she did get them legitly, it was just unethical to use them

she paid like a 40% gift tax, not the 15% tax the really rich pay

so how is she gonna think she deserved to use the rest of that $200.00 in food stamps when she just paid a couple hundred thousand in taxes

btw, it is also unethical for the rich to use loopholes in the tax laws, but they do it, and for a lot more then $200, what do you think of that? especially when so many suffering right now?

You are preaching to the choir FreshAir. But when situations like this occur, the right uses it to justify attacks against morally sound programs that they have personal selfish agendas against.

But you are right, does Exxon mobile deserve a welfare check? Of course not. Republicans and Democrats alike drive us into Socialism, but are afraid to call it that. There is no free market, never was. The government has been throwing around tax dollars to influence outcomes. This was never a free market and conservatives are fools.

We played the part of capitalism, and then tried to create outcomes by tossing tax dollars around. One problem, you are using socialist ideology in a capitalist system. You are tossing welfare at companies so they drop prices, and to think how many billions go to gasoline companies? Its nice how those billions are spread thin amongst all the companies. Means we are spending heavily to get a small amount off the price through the country. Socialist ideas, but in a socialist country you spend those billions in one go, at one place for a major drop off in price.

You can't influence the market in a socialist like way because this is a private economy. And now they've squandered tax dollars for minimal benefits because the system does not allow for social gains and social losses at the same time.

The rich laugh all the way to the bank.

I do not think anyone has attacked the program. I started a thread about welfare being a good thing on paper but it is not the stimulus it used to be.

It was an attack on her.

Pay attention; I'll only type this once for you:

The OP was an attack on the character of this dimwit, and the character of anyone like her, including the morally bankrupt leftists in this very thread who actually cannot bring themselves to condemn this sort of behaviour, and try to deflect scrutiny.

I think the story reflects badly on the person talking the food stamps and the whole program itself.

This woman is in many ways what society conditioned her to be.

Bleeding heart libs think that they can wipe every nose with tax dollars and after a while the poor come to expect free stuff from the government just because they exist.

The lib welfare state created this woman in its own image.

She paid the same 40% gift tax that every trust fund baby pays when their parents give them a new car or anything else of value - including the trust itself.

If she is smart, she will invest the money she got, then she will pay the same 15% on any money that the already taxed investment earns - just like everyone else, including the rich.

Does she need them in order to feed herself?

She would not qualify for Medicaid why should she qualify for food stamps?

You are supposed to report change of assets as well. I don't believe it is illegal to not report it. (not sure on that). But if a DHS representative found out you had 750,000 dollars in the bank it would likely end in your SNAP account being terminated. That said they only check twice a year. And even if they did check she would still have access to all the food stamps she had prior to the cancellation. So it's very possible she was already canceled but just had rollover food stamps left.

It is taxed as income and she would pay the same rate the really rich pay on income.

Not in the slightest. How absurd to think Congress passes tax laws but if you abide by them it is unethical.

Mitt Romney paid MILLIONS in taxes so you'd be OK if he recieved food stamps too since he paid so much in taxes?

Those "loopholes" are credits for hiring people, credits for researching new products, credits for using green energy, depreciation for new equipment, loss carryover. All credits or deductions of income THEY EARNED.

How is GETTING cash for the government comparable?

Welfare fraud, yes. That the left bends over backwards to excuse it even more so.

uh no. Why would you have to pay back anything? You qualified for it. That's your money. You shouldn't qualify for more payments but it was money given to you. Not loaned.
