The problem is that you're not describing the contemporary Republican Party. If they were really for smaller, more efficient government, minimal intervention into the lives and bedrooms of this country and the workings of other countries, were tolerant of non-whites, non-heterosexuals, non-Christians, and everything else they're currently not then I would probably be a Republican. So I certainly won't bash you for what you've described. I would wonder why you're a Republican, though.
I'm an independent and I'm feeling oppressed that only Democrats were mentioned. Now, I don't hate Republicans - especially the women. Conservative females are much hotter than those crazed amazonian loudmouths that grace the liberal camp. So I guess I know why Democrat MEN hate Republicans - they're jealous!

Can you not see all the republican hate in this thread and this board... and the topic is democratic hate? BTW, question for the OP, who passed the largest entitlement program in the last 50 years? Another question for the OP, what percentage of the budget is "safety net" programs like the ones you mention in the original post? Why don't the republicans talk about cutting the spending on paying people not to fish "farm subsidies" or paying people to not produce anything for the economy, like the military?

State and U.S. government annual budget should provide a safety net (welfare for the people) for individuals that are medically disabled, the handicapped and for individuals who lost jobs and are/were receiving unemployment benefits and consistently seeking employment.
Democrats increasingly hate Republicans because Republicans increasingly hate Democrats, and Republicans increasingly hate Democrats because Democrats increasingly hate Republicans. If you want to talk about the poisoning of the body politic, look at the media (left and right) and special interest groups and lobbyists for your real culprits.
Right-wing politics and correct actions are not the same thing. When you think conservatives are classical liberals you can see why you shouldnt take terminology too seriously. You base your argument on the assumption the belief that it is easy for anyone to gain a comfortable life simply from putting in the work. Many can and many find that this is only a thin promise to lull the masses into complacently. If hard work was the only variable to success then the tables would be quite turned since those who do the work dont make much money and those who have all the money dont do much work. The argument of left and right or democrat and republican is at its heart, not the concessions of kindness versus pragmatism or even of more resources to the less powerful at the expense of long term sustainability. Liberals dont want charity to replace the reciprocal process of gaining an output from ones input. A liberal interprets the capitalist mode of production (in which the means of production is concentrated into few hands) ensures that an elite few decide the income of all those below them and, to maximise their own profit margins, only give the proletarian as much as they can get away with. They thus embezzle the money created by the labour of their employees by not giving them the output proportional to their input. The 2 conclusions are to either change the relations of production to collective ownership or to simply redistribute wealth. In short, social welfare and state funded services are not charity, theyre justice. An attempt to return what was taken. Youre right that children are the responsibility or their legal guardians. But that doesnt mean that nothing should be done to keep children safe. If youre simply trusting people to be good parents then you are dooming the children to the fate decided by someone else. Not one based on their own merits and personal responsibility.
