That's effin awesome!!!!!!! I'm so happy I live in a country where people can come from not much to being able to have a freaking car elevator. Hopefully he will get elected because Obama is trying to instill in people that success and making money is evil and that failure and poverty is the American dream. Good for Romney, and I personally am not jealous of him because he has been successful in life.

Romney envisions a free America where people can guiltlessly aspire to have a car elevator in their garage...
Obama envisions a government dependent America where people live in their mother's garage.

    cont....

Bush's fuel price spike was caused by greedy "oil men in the White House"...

Obama's fuel price spike was caused by speculators, market forces and unrest in the Middle East

I really don't understand why you're bringing Edwards into this. I'm not a liberal, I'm not a democrat, and I really don't care about Edwards. To put it in perspective, though, Edwards was never a presidential nominee (he was only a candidate). Romney is, and he's the one that needs to convince people he is the better leader. My point is that in these times, when the distance between the wealthy and the working class is greater than it's ever been, Romney's life of luxury is a major achilles heel. The first responses in this thread were hey, it's his money, let him do what he wants! And that is not the point at all.

Romney's wealth is not his achilles heel, you just personally think it should be. And the comparison to Edwards is exactly the same but I can guarantee that there are no threads from you chastising Edwards during the primaries.

Your faux outrage is misplaced, the cost of the car elevator at $55k is less than most kitchen remodels from people who make considerably less than $200 per year, which is a tiny fraction of Romney's income per year.

Voters look to leaders that instill a sense confidence to lead the country. Sometimes economic, sometimes change, but there are zero candidates that are "working class".

Answer this question, would you rather have a presidential candidate that paid $55k for a car elevator, or a former presidential candidate that deliberately avoided paying over $400k in Massachusetts state taxes by mooring his yacht in RI?

It is clear that politicians have money and it is also clear that how these politicians spend money (or cheat on their taxes) does not have a material impact on electability. That is the reality, which you seem not to understand.

Edwards very well could have been the nominee, if he hadn't been caught fiddlin around while his wife burned. His life style was way beyond anything the average American could ever imagine and I didn't hear any of this stuff from Liberals I am hearing about Romney. I can't understand why you can't understand that. There is NO difference.

You need to look up "psychopath" in a dictionary before (baselessly) accusing someone of being one.

Actually it matters quite a bit to the common person if they want to consider he might run our government the way he runs his own household. It also matter when you consider how far from the average person he is in terms of just about everything.

People are supposed to believe this guy has a clue what it is to do any real work for a living?
As for the argument that “it’s his money”, Is it?
He got rich by basically wiping out other peoples jobs and pushing a HUGE tax burden off on the American people. I say a lot of his money belongs to us!

I didn't hear any of this stuff when Romney was one in a field of twelve candidates either, except for that time he offered to bet Rick Perry $10 million. But other than that, the criticism about him was mostly how unenthusiastically inevitable his campaign appeared. Now that he's here, his upper-class otherness is going to become an issue. The other difference with Edwards, besides the fact that he was never the nominee, is the timing. When he was running in 2004 times were good and no one cared about how much money politicians had. Even in 2008 the recession had just hit and no one understood what the impact would be - and they definitely did not suspect that the wealthy would continue to see their incomes increase while the working class stagnated. Since then, that has become a talking point. The comparison between Romney and Edwards is weak.

Posters in here have compared Romney to FDR, JFK, John Edwards, and now John Kerry, none of whom is running for president in 2012. Good job.

The Kerry comparison is meaningful in this regard, though: both ran or are running against beatable incumbents; yet both lost or will lose because they are both so unappealing to independents.

The significant comparison to Kerry is that Kerry married into his money where Romney made his the old fashioned way, on his own.

oh...you're right. George Romney was a plumber, wasn't he? Just a poor working stiff who wasn't able to give his poor son any advantages in life. For a minute, I got confused and thought, somehow, that Mitt's dad had been a wealthy detroit car maker and three time governor and died a wealthy man. I got confused and thought, somehow that Mitt's dad paid full freight for Mitt to go to Stanford and gave him an allowance so big that Mittens could afford to jet back to Michigan to see his sweetie on weekends... I thought, somehow, that Mittens went to grad school and not only didn't have to pay any of his tuition, but that daddy picked that tab up too and gave him an allowance so he didn't even have to work a part-time job like most grad students do to help pay his way. I am sorry. I got confused. George "the plumber" Romney didn't give Mittens any advantages growing up... he earned it all on his own.

Your class envy is showing big time.

    Who paid for Obama's way?

I'm IN that class, pal... I have no envy whatsoever. I merely point out the fallacy of your trying to paint Mittens as a rags to riches self made man. THAT is laughable.

So you won't answer the question, how shocking. Did you vote for Kerry and do agree with what he did?

The argument you are trying to make (unsuccessfully) is that voters will not vote for wealthy candidates. History has proven your theory wrong, you just can't admit it.

He certainly didn't marry into his wealth like Kerry did, unless that is the picture you are trying to paint.

How about Obama the post turtle? Who paid for his way?

certainly some of it. he has admitted as much... and his path through our educational system was made smooth by the wealth and influence of his family.

Obama? I would imagine that scholarships and affirmative action probably had a great deal to do with his being able to receive his higher education. After graduating, he made his way in the world on his own, and became a successful author, lawyer, professor, politician, and now president.

saying that Romney did not benefit from his family's wealth and position is pretty silly, really.

The plain fact is, Democrats are hypocrites. They want to paint Romney as being out of touch with the American people because he is so rich when they had a least two on their side running for President that was no different than Romney.

They complain Romney bullied a kid in school when Obama did the same thing.

They have accused Romney of lying when so has Obama.

They said Governor Perry was stupid because he couldn't remember the name of a government department he wanted to do way with. Even though he had said it many times before. As if none of them ever forgot a name when discussing things with others.

Never said anything when Obama couldn't remember how many states there were.

Where was the backlash from Libs when Obama said his administration would be the most open in our history and then kept most of his personal papers sealed? Locked the Republicans out of the health care meetings.

They throw rocks at any Republican over the least little thing when in most cases, their side does the very same thing.

    Etc, etc., etc.
