Again, color is important or an unvetted, inexperienced candidate such as Obama would never have been nominated! If he had been white, few would know who he was.
Because of psychology. I'd (subconsciously) consider a black man as having more empathy for others because black people are still discriminated against unfairly in society. Actually this probably wouldn't be far from the truth anyway since as a public figure he'd have to be very conscious of people's opinions of black people etc. A white man wouldn't have experienced this discrimination and therefore would be more likely to view racial discrimination in a colder and more impersonal way.
He's a Mormon. Brigham Young was a Mormon. As late as the 1960s, BYU didn't allow blacks on their athletic teams. It grudgingly succumbed to public pressure and a lot of that old college spirit remains in Utah. You'd have to ask Mitt, but my guess is that he would say "Yes. Or maybe no. Anybody know what day it is? Anybody know what county I'm in."
