My wife always reads my email..maybe she thinks I'm having an affair but I'm not..I just like my privacy when I write to friends or order something online..
so the other day I changed my yahoo password and she somehow hacked in..I asked her how she did it and she wouldn't tell me..
How does she do it?? is there another way to prevent her from hacking in to my yahoo email..I don't want to start a new account..to much hassle..
    thanks..

You're an understanding guy Charlie. Although I'm not in the same situation, if it happened to me I would not be so understanding. just say'n.....

Anyway, I kinda doubt you'll have a lot of success getting someone to tell you how to hack the account. Simply for concern of others privacy. I hope you understand.

Although you mentioned it being a hassle to you, my advice would be to create another account entirely. I suggest a gmail account. Simple, fast, and tons of storage capacity.

    Best of luck.

...always a good idea to set a strong password, containing both letters and numerals.

Take a look at the installed programs for 007 Password or something similar.

It allows a box to be placed over the ******** (Password) to reveal it.

I would punch her, but that's me. She might have gotten the password by knowing the answers to your security questions. Change your password and your security questions. You can also get virtual keyboard so she cannot keylog anything. The virtual keyboard encrypts all of your keyboard strokes.

One very easy way she could've gotten your pw is she installed a keylogger. A keylogger is a small, invisible program that records all keystrokes to an encrypted file. The person that installed the keylogger can then go back and view what was typed. Keyloggers can be setup to run automatically (when you start the PC, or at some particular time each day), or they can be started manually when the snoop knows the target person is going to use the PC. Since they run invisibly, you have no idea that your every keystroke is being recorded for future viewing. Most keyloggers are free for the download off of various sites - e.g. torrent sites like The Pirate Bay.

[keyloggers are a very popular tool for people that suspect their spouse or kids are up to mischief]

That was my first thought, D.

I was just reluctant to mention it.

Apart from the fact that installing a keylogger to snoop on someone is a pretty obnoxious invasion of their privacy, one very common problem with them is that the snoop ends up learning things that he/she would be better off NOT KNOWING. Think about it. Do we REALLY want to know what some relative or friend is typing on that dam pc at 2 am???

I do wonder about her installing a key logger on a Mac. That doesn't seem so likely, and it depends on whether she knows your Mac login password or not. Does she?

As for Yahoo, maybe you just made the password too guessable?

I recommend this: First ensure that there are no key loggers installed and running, then change your Mac's login password (which also happens to be the password for doing administrative tasks, such as installing key loggers <_< ), and finally change your Yahoo password (again) to something unique and hard to figure out. Preferably with some combo of capital letters, symbols, numbers and lowercase letters. I think they enforce such standards anyway - for mine, well, I don't want to give too much away, but basically I took a word and got sufficiently creative with its spelling and added numbers. It's memorable enough to me, unique from my other passwords and basically unguessable.

You can check for software running as a login item by going to System Preferences -> Users -> Startup Objects (or some such - your experience may differ slightly depending on Mac OS X version). The only app I have in mine right now is iTunes Helper. Anything else you might find there is suspect!

Oh, and consider putting a password lock on your system screensaver, so that when it activates, your snooping little lady can't wake the Mac up after you've left it and have her way with it. If you two share the system, do all of the above and then make her a separate user account and make a habit of logging out of your own account when you're not using the machine and she might get onto it. Though honestly, I'd just do everything else but that and dump the broad.

Well, yeah, she'd be aware of even these posts he's made, wouldn't she? Creepy stuff.

With 007 Password, she would have to be on your computer to uncover it.

You could change the password to something like 'Iamnotstupid' and wait for a reaction, then change it again, using both numbers and letters, the latter in upper and lower case.

If she's willing to hack your stuff I'd say there's a bigger problem here than maintaining your privacy.

Tell your wife to mind her own business.

Go through her phone and her emails. Go through her private things and when she (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)es to you about it, tell her you are merely doing exactly what she does to you.

There are a number of ways she could have done it. The simplest way would be that she knows the answer to your "secret question" and thus can reset your password at her leisure. Another way would be that she installed spying software on your PC that creates a hidden back door with admin privileges and perhaps is preforming some exploit from that... not likely unless she is an PC guru... or another simple way would be to set up a key logger that she could review to get your password. There are many different software that are designed for parents to monitor computer use of their children... or perhaps spouse in this care.

My suggestion. Format and reinstall. Then when you are not using your PC lock it so it can only be accessed by a password that presumably only you would know. You could first do a complete virus scan, but virus scanners are not as effective as you may think and can be compromised by a virus giving false readings or disabled altogether. IDS (Intrusion Detection Systems) are much more effective but can be very intrusive and time consuming to configure.

Also I hope that you are using Windows Vista or later if on a PC. As XP if not appropriately updated can be breached with a simple thumb drive.

No. She can access your email from any device hooked into the Internet and has some sort of a web browser... an IPhone for example. If she knows the answer to your "secret question" she could reset your password from anywhere. Yahoo resides on a Yahoo server on the Internet. When you log into Yahoo, your login info and emails are stored on their servers, not your PC. If you use Outlook Express then that is a different story.

Why not just make a whole different sign in account for your Mac? make yourself the admin and pick an off the wall password.. problem solved.
of course your still going to need a new email and such...

if my wife did that to me... i would be seriously pissed.. i mean BAD... that's why I give her my email passwords.. and i tell her that if she finds anything questionable on it from snooping... that evidence is inadmissable. i plant (*)(*)(*)(*) in there once in a while. I snapped a picture on my Iphone of a very attractive women taking a self pic ... just to see if my wife was snooping my phone... and bam she took the bait.. i let her stew on it for a full day before i told her where it came from.. it hasn't happened since...
