Survey Update: 83% of Doctors Considered Quitting Over Obamacare! What will new enrollees do?

Let’s say two years from now it all works out for the Democrats and we welcome the supposed 45 million or so individuals without healthcare insurance into the fold and they receive the preventive care and primary care that we are told will solve the problems of universal access by everyone to American healthcare.

Based on the assumption that these uninsured people are not receiving healthcare now, we will need about 100,000 more doctors than we have at present (our current physician workforce is about 900,000 physicians). This number is based on our current count of 2.43/1000 population according to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. Let’s be conservative and assume that half of these individuals are receiving some kind of care now, so that conservatively we will only need 50,000 new doctors to care for them.

One response to this assumption may be that we already have too many doctors to treat too few patients. Perhaps, but the average number of medical doctors in the much-admired country of France, for example, is about 30% higher per 1000 population than in the U.S. today, so it is likely that we will really need at least that many more doctors to handle the workload of new patients who will receive new coverage on Medicaid.

"As for Obamacare specifically, the association said: “Doctors say that a key government provision in the Affordable Care Act, the huge expansion of Medicaid enrollees, is likely to backfire, as 49 percent say they will stop accepting Medicaid payments.” What will all of these new patients who cannot pay for their healthcare do then?

    Discussion and analysis follow.

Eighty-three percent of American physicians have considered leaving the profession over President Barack Obama’s healthcare reform law – and 63 percent have called for repealing all or part of it, according to a survey by the Doctor Patient Medical Association.

The results from the non-partisan association of doctors and patients, founded last fall and headquartered in Alexandria, Va., is based on a national survey of 699 physicians, the Daily Caller reports.

By 2020, the U.S. is expected to face a shortage of at least 90,000 doctors. Because the new healthcare law expands insurance coverage, it will increase physician demand.

“Hands down, doctors blame government involvement for the current problems in medicine, and are not shy to say they want it out,” the association says in a report on the survey findings.

“The reasons cited range from the deluge of regulatory compliance that siphons time away from patient care, to de facto rationing achieved through complex payment schemes, to cushy relationships that favor corporations and special interests in medicine.”

The organization found that many doctors don't believe the legislation will give more Americans quality care, association co-founder Kathryn Serkes said. “Doctors clearly understand what Washington does not — that a piece of paper that says you are ‘covered’ by insurance or ‘enrolled’ in Medicare or Medicaid does not translate to actual medical care when doctors can’t afford to see patients at the lowball payments, and patients have to jump through government and insurance company bureaucratic hoops,” she said.

As for Obamacare specifically, the association said: “Doctors say that a key government provision in the Affordable Care Act, the huge expansion of Medicaid enrollees, is likely to backfire, as 49 percent say they will stop accepting Medicaid payments.”

    You are mistaken.

This is my analysis. It is not included in the other very limited thread.

    Stop spreading false rumors.

My views follow on the coming doctor shortage follow.

Just wait, this is going to have major problems that the democrats are not willing to face.

I expect it to get so bad that Congress is forced to scrap it. Any plan of this scope needs to be bipartisan and implemented very slowly. This huge thing that nobody even knew what was contained in it is happening too fast and there's too much confusion. Even a bunch of States are fighting it..

Its just one huge mess that's going to implode.

Please provide credible sources for your assumptions that they are wrong.

James, your point is moot. You made the thread, with a similar idea to a differnt thread of the same topic. That is what makes it a dup thread.

Then, please don't post. Don't take offense, but this thread will continue on, unless we stop posting. I've already reported this and that thread.

    Ha-Ha!

I would like for the moderators to delete the earliest discussion.

The second discussion contains more information.

I cannot delete the first discussion or I would have.

    It is really that simple.

So far, not even Über Führer Obama has suggested a way to force medical personnel to work under the dictates of Obamacare, but I wouldn't put anything past him. I do know a number of people in the greater medical community, and not one of them has a single good word to say about Obamacare! The impression I get from them is that they will realign their practices so that they do not partipate in Obamacare at all... period! They aren't stupid, and they know that this will come down to a supply-and-demand situation very quickly. They also know that they can attract plenty of customers who will pay out-of-pocket for good medical service and never have to screw with stinking insurance companies or the government again. They will cherry-pick the customer base and leave the downscaler welfare dregs to suck off the government.

Hey, President "Messiah"... you got a plan to stretch forth thy mighty hands and miraculously heal everybody? No? You'd better start working on that fast!

    These are wonderful comments, Pollycy.

Many medical doctors today are offering a 20% discount to patients who pay cash for their medical care. This is a great way to get around Obamacare and the patients on the Medicaid rolls.

These observations were also very good.

Nazi IS as Nazi DOES! And King Hussein is the most flagrant autocrat I've ever seen in the White House in my life!

If you read my post I said that "I do know a number of people in the greater medical community, and not one of them has a single good word to say about Obamacare!" Let me guess -- next you will declare my observation invalid because I am not a doctor. Go right ahead... it won't change the reality of the situation. But don't take my word for it... go ask a doctor, or a nurse, or anybody who is going to have to deal with this Socialized Medicine cluster-(*)(*)(*)(*)....
