Nobody is suggesting that the southern states are defined solely by their rebellious past. Most are just taking issue with the asinine notion that the Confederate flag is a racist symbol. It's just a Scottish cross. It represents the common soldiers (who did not own slaves) and their religious and cultural heritage. Their heritage is just as much as part of this nation's history as anyone else's. The Federal government was more genocidal than the Confederacy ever was, just ask the natives. All this Lincoln-loving is just pro-government propaganda. It is not a realistic view of the civil war.

 

Throw whatever you like, it doesn't change the facts. "Race" has no rigorous biological meaning. The only way to determine someone's "race" is to subjectively assess a bunch of arbitrary and imprecise ad hoc criteria like "skin color" and such.
