Well since Mitt Romney has been taking flack for the dumb things he said at a private fundraiser, the things coming out are getting worse and worse. Romney basically said that if the US military had a disaster like the failed hostage rescue under Jimmy Carter in 1980, he would use it as a political opportunity. Yes Mitt says he would use the deaths of US troops as a political tool. Very cold and businesslike as he said it too. Have a listen.

This is far worse than Romney calling 47% of voters welfare cases who see themselves as victims.

I was first creeped out buy the dog on the roof of the car story. I knew there was something wrong with him. He's a cold callous bastard. I think every US troop sees this.

"Take advantage of the situation"......to highlight the complete FAIL that is Jimmy Carter Back in Black's Foreign Policy.

Just as Reagan did with the first Jimmy Carter......

    Epic Thread Fail.....

We have many veterans on food stamps.. Romney thinks they are the 47%......

Carter was a much smarter man and a much better man than Mitt, but Carter had real bad intel on Iran.

You imply as much when you praise reagan's way of doing business with iran.

BTw, when willard said "take advantage" he was talking about shooting his undisciplined mouth not about actually something constructive.

At least five hundred Americans are alive today who are going to die because Obama won't withdraw them from Afghanistan immediately. Lots of them will be killed by their Afghan allies who shoot them in the back.

This is Obama's fault. Obama needs to bring the troops home now. The Taliban have defeated Obama politically. Obama should accept his defeat and do the right thing by bringing the troops home now.

    I implied nothing....

.....I simply stated that Romney said he would "Take advantage of the situation"....similar to how Reagan took advantage of the First Jimmy Carter's Limp Wristed Failed Foregin Policy.....your wild imagination took it from there.

No....."Take advantage of the situation" is what Romney says.....it was the wild imaginations of the Liberal Press that took it from there.

I would suggest that perhaps the poster concerned is an educated man, who has chosen to use the traditional and correct spelling of the word 'favour'. It was spelt thus long before the USA came into existence, and long before Noah Webster embarked upon his pointless (and failed) exercise. Failed because Webster's spelling 'reforms' have spread no further than the USA, and are regarded as an ignorant aberration elsewhere in the English speaking world. :)

And, as a matter of interest, what significance has the poster's nationality to the topic under discussion?

No he was saying that if something bad happened he would take advantage of it politically. It really has nothing to do with Carter. It has everything to do with being a disgusting lowlife like Romney.

The more information one has the greater insight is possible. This helps in truly understanding the meaning behind such poster's comments. It makes communication clearer.

I sure wouldn't call it a failure, but then I still retain the ability to think for myself and not allow the media to tell me how to think and what to say.

Where was this sentiment in 2004? Or 2008? Of course the war in Afghanistan is a meat grinder and a waste of national resources. But the troops were sent there by President Obama's predecessor who was trumpeted by the Right as a foreign policy genius. Now the Right wants to tack hard to port and use the ineptitude that sent the troops there as a political salvo against the man who is ending that mistake. Can anyone define hypocrisy for me?

We learn from our mistakes. The world has changed profoundly since 2001. After the invasion of Iraq and the failure to discover wmd there I abandoned Bush because I realized he was in the process of throwing away an empire. I didn't vote for either main party candidate in 2004 or 2008.

In 2009 when Obama escalated the war in Afghanistan I knew he was making a colossal mistake. Now Obama has been defeated and America along with him. But Obama is still keeping troops in Afghanistan for at least two more years...for nothing...more Americans will die as a result. Doesn't that bother you?

Of course it bothers me. But I accept the fact that Afghanistan is not a simple problem but the Gordian Knot of foreign policy. You say we learn from our mistakes. What happened after we supported resistance fighters in Afghanistan during the Soviet occupation? We left that area as a vacuum. We failed to understand the culture there and the resentment foreign occupiers have always faced. Should we turn and run from there twice in thirty years only to see the same thing happen again?
