What the hell is wrong with you people? The IFES is not the UN. Get it in your heads. And the group you are talking about is a group of people from war torn and third world countries. They can't believe stuff works so well over here without militia men with AK 47s standing around. Get a clue.

I kinda like the technique they use in Iraq. The one that WE implemented.

Where you dip your finger in a purple die at the polling place as you vote. The die takes days to wear off.

If you've got a purple finger, you can't vote again. How simple is that...

Does Australia have an equivalent to the Democrat party, the party of slave-traders, insurrection, KKK terrorism, lynchings, segregation, Tammany Hall corruption, Chicago corruption, and abortion?

No, actually, though the Liberal MSM spin machine tries hard to decieve people in thinking otherwise, he has his historical facts exactly right.

In Australia, thousands of people cast multiple votes every year.

Oh, are you voting for those historical candidates?

Another logical fallacy brought to you by a right winger.

Assumes that lefties give a rat's ass about what the UN thinks. Not that they don't, just that it makes an assumption that we should be aware of.

I'm not against voter ID laws, but I'm a little conflicted as to which level of government should decide the rules of federal elections. On one hand people are technically electing state electors, not the President - on the other this is a matter which concerns the union and isn't really an internal state matter. I lean towards the former I guess.

It does sort of annoy me when states enact voter laws with the obvious hidden aim of disenfranchising people.

I think a better solution than requiring ID at the poll is requiring ID at registration, and looking up photo ID on the poll computers to confirm identity. Saves a lot of bother at the polls.

Not every year ;) We have Federal elections every 3 years.

This issue is really partisan because voting requirements disproportionately affect poor (and thus usually left) demographics. Conservative politicians want to put on as many requirements as possible to gain an advantage, and leftist politicians want to remove requirements to gain an advantage.

This is why the AEC handles voter registration requirements in Australia. The AEC goes to ridiculous lengths to be impartial, even demanding that certain employees revoke their party memberships. I mostly approve of the job the AEC is doing, perhaps we should have voter ID laws - but it's a decision best left to a non-political organization, not state premiers.

(This entire post was concerning Australia, not the United States. The argument for letting states deal with voter ID laws is stronger in the US because of the electoral college voting system. In Australia the PM is elected by the party with a majority in Parliament)

Take your lack of evidence of significant voter law based on lack of ID and shove it.

And funny how republicans only care about voter ID when they're not trying to suppress democrats. Why didn't they require ID during the republican caucus?

The thread sounded promising, until we realized it was the UN, and the cited source in the OP is a joke.
