The definition I have seen of sacriligious calls it something that is "grossly irreverent". Putting a crucifix in a jar of urine is indeed grossly irreverent. As a symbol of Christianity, one is hardly worshiping an idol when one is offended by such "art".
Wow, a little doll in some fake urine? Seriously, who cares? Knowing our right-wing friends' penchant for making their own reality, 99.9% of those comments come from Glenn Beck fans posing as "liberals".
The art was a commentary on the commercialised Christ-for-profit world today that has pissed on His message. There are parallels with Beck's treatment of the President. Beck and his pack of followers lack the wit to see it.
That is the most absurd excuse I have ever heard! If that was his intent, why urine? Why not weak tea? Why not use something other than a crucifix? The "artist" wanted to make an outrageous statement and jab a finger in the eye of Christians. By the way, it was more than a photo. The exibit went on public display.
*sigh* http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fountain_(Duchamp) There's more to art than just those facets. Those are common aspects of paintings, photographs, and the like, but there exists none of them in many modern paintings. One can become high art through other means. I'm not going to deny that (*)(*)(*)(*) Obama is art; it is art. It's just really, really bad art, for the reasons explained above. It's like those Jon McNaughton paintings or 50 Shades of Grey - utterly devoid of any artistic merit, yet still technically art. Questerr, you're just wrong. If there's anything I hate more than modern "art" like Fountain or basically anything by Jackson Pollock, it's people who utterly miss the point. Colonel K seems to have it right; at least, his interpretation makes some sense.
This so called art fails because the sensationalistic nature of the piece overwhelms the message and the message fails because dipping a crucifix in urine makes no comment whatsoever on the commercialization of Christ. I guess Serrano could have portrayed Jesus with a Rolex and gold chains hanging off a bling cross but perhaps his piece wouldn't have been so sensationalistic and quite as disrepectful that way. In any event it is lazy, needlessly puerile and self indulgent. Anyone can frame a pile of dog crap and call it art and a comment on society but it's really more of a comment on the artist himself.
hmm P I S S Christ gets some funding from the national endowment for the arts (taxpayer dollars) yet Pee Pee Obama gets slammed by the left and media lapdogs and Ebay gets pressured to remove the item form the auction site. There is none so blind as he who will not see
nope now with respect to Obama, aka "the one" aka "the messiah" aka "Lord and Savior" ; can I get back to you on that.
I have priceless art hanging from my fridge, taped to my walls and also hanging from my Christmas tree. I don't need a leftist to tell me that it's not art because it's priceless to me. Thus , Pee Pee Obama is in fact art.
Actually, Serrano's snap would have been regarded as just an ordinary filtered image of another celebrated image of capital punishment were it not for the title. It was obviously calculated to upset particular folks, and it worked. If wee-weeing on a similitude of the President of the United States brings the gobsmacked blazers a modicum of harmless glee, I say whiz away with elán, brio, and panache.
Or Anyone can make a small-minded personal attack on his President, while his followers cheer him on, revelling in their ignorance.
This guys portfolio is the gift that keeps on giving. A modern day master I tell you. Heres one from his "The Klan" series. http://www.artnet.com/usernet/awc/a...02827&gid=424202827&cid=118027&works_of_art=1 Total art! The way the White and green contrast is simply breathtaking. When put in front of the dark background it practically pops out at you!! I appreciate those who defended this guy, it made me open my eyes a bit. instead of instantly recognizing an offensive subject matter meant only to insult and shock, I am now compelled to push aside my initial observations and let his artistic vision sink in. A modern day Master. Such talent! I highly recommend clicking the link to see the rest of the series. You wouldnt want to miss the next Mona Lisa would you? And I thought this guy was garbage. I was wrong, I see it now. Bristling with talent.
But I do see. I see that P I S S Christ and Pee Pee Obama are both on about the same level of stupidity - and so are both the left and the right in their idiotic finger-pointing tactics. As for the public sector funding of the former, that only shows how politically correct unadulterated idiocy really is.
Leftist amusement is rightist outrage. With vulgar depictions of various religious figures evoking extreme ire amongst fanatical followers, mere politicians are clearly vulnerable to such piddling putdowns. When one's ideological lunacy is rejected by the American people, recourse to retaliatory pee pee directed at elected office holders affords an innocuous catharsis.
Getting your daily dose of outrage from The Blaze? And you wonder why so many believe the right have lost it.
feel free to shoot the messenger; it does not change the message. P I S S Christ is simply swell with the left Pee Pee Obama is an outrage to the left
